Help with 930 CV joint boots

I have tried 3 types of boots on the 930 c/v joints in my car. First I tried the sleek, sexy "Aero" boot such as the type on Indy cars. These extremely low profile boots look great, but are made for open wheel race cars with 1.5in total suspension travel and ripped open after a short time in my...

    IMSA Fiero Race car

Here's the deal on the clutch............and a few more parts that I used this winter.......... As much as I don't care for NASCAR, I gotta love them!! In their display of excess and waste, we benefit. On Ebay, there are many ex-NASCAR parts for pennies on the dollar, you just have to know...

    IMSA Fiero Race car

UPDATE TIME !!!!!!!!! I know it's been a long while since the last post, but the shop has been busy, there are many projects at home to do and with the Fiero, well, it's easier for me to work on it than type out a post( I hate typing!!) So, my goals for the off season were to freshen the LS6...

    sequential transaxle for GT40

It's not so much the RPM at which the shift is made, but the tempo... Dog rings do not like a slow shift tempo, either shift or don't......You can't be indecisive about a shift or you will hurt the dogs. Sometimes I would bauk a shift on a cool down lap or entry to the pits due to me being "off...

    Exhaust - welding passing pipes

I would leave them separate, as the tubes need room to "move" as they heat and cool. Welding them together(especially at one tiny point) could lead to cracks. That's what I would do............ Dave d.

    Header prices

I use Central Connecticut Coatings( used to be called Air Born coatings) and have had very good service and results from them. Years ago, I used to send to Jet Hot in Alabama, but service changed and the warranty changes from lifetime if new to only a few months. As Blue stated, yea, it is...

    Header prices

I am curious as to what the going rate for a custom set of 4 into 1 ( not crossover,180deg) headers are. Since I do all of my own fabricating I never had to pay someone to do this for me, but have wondered what a "professional" fabrication shop charges. So let me know also if the headers were...

    Expertise requested about Snap-on tools

At my shop, Snap On is all I use. #1, because I do like the feel of the ratchets and wrenches, and #2 because my Snap-On dealer is the only one that reliably comes every week. I can't remember when the last Mac or Matco dealer was around!! P.S. I do have a Maximiser box by Mac, because at the...

    917 Scratch Build

Be careful when running knock sensor-equipped engines in solid mounts. I'm not sure about the engine you're using, but in my case with a LS6 Chevy, I was told that I would have to disable the sensors due to false readings due to the solid mounts. You may want t check on that.

    Which tig welder to get?

I've got the TIG that a friend who is a certified pro welder recommended to get, the Lincoln Square Wave 175. It may not have the bells and whistles and settings that a Syncrowave has, but for schlubs like us,this is perfect. The auto start/frequency adjust helps,as well as some other features...

    Crotch Straps placement - Where?

Usually for a 6 point belt, the each end of the crotch strap can mount using the rear 2 bolts of the seat frame, provided that those holes/threaded mounts are sturdy enough.

    930 starters

For 4 track day use seasons I have never had an issue with my Hi-Torque starter for the 930. I have the 930 behind a mild LS6 with the Kennedy midplate/clutch/Hi-torque starter setup. Like all other parts out there, you may have gotten a rotten one out of the box. Since all they are under the...

    Dg-930 - Porsche 930 Transaxle Improvements

Alright, I waited until I had a full season of use logged on a project I call the "DG930 transaxle". As some or most of this board knows,I have a restored IMSA tube chassis Pontiac Fiero that I use for open track fun powered by a mild LS6 backed by a Porsche 930 trans. I know I haven't...

Porsche G50-01 Solid Gear Change Linkage.

Here's what I use for my 930 box on an LS6 in my tube chassis race car. I basically copied the linkage of a Porsche 962 in how it mates up at the trans with a simple joint/pivot which gives me a better shift feel than an offset "hockey stick" style such as how Flatchat showed. Disregard how my...

Lola T70 Reproduction Build... Recommendations for non ZF transaxle?

Ron, What kind of angles are you worried about? In my setup(LS6 w/batwing pan) and 930, with the oil pan even with chassis bottom edge, I have around 5 deg from horiz but due to my wheelbase, 12deg to the front. This is with a 25.5 in tire at 3.75in ride height. I use NEO CV grease and...
