    Steering intermediate shaft phasing

Hi Pat, When upgrading early CAV steering columns we also shortened the main column shaft and housing to allow room for a longer telescopic intermediate shaft. This also allows moving the column up and away from the pedals, good for larger shoes sizes. Fiddly place to work though... There's good...

Engine Mounting Position - 302. Help please

Hi Chris, congratulations on your KVA acquisition. As the KVA practically launched the whole GT40 replica industry you are the custodian of a truly significant car. There's a vast knowledge base available on this forum from members on both sides of the pond just for the asking. As you...

    Incoming CAV GT #41

Hi Rick, gotta say Silver looks great on a GT40! Walter has the right answer for longevity with ZF/RBT transxales. As Dave said syncing the revs is a must (and one of the most rewarding experiences when you get it right). Cliff, thanks for the unsolicited plug... About the bars in the photo...

the design of the front and rear upright for a GT40 MK1

Hi Oliver, the great thing about starting from scratch is the freedom to improve the breed rather than work within the constraints of another design. We've seen some amazing craftsmanship and ingenuity applied to GT40 replicas here on the GT40s Forum. Best of luck on your project. Cheers Ian

the design of the front and rear upright for a GT40 MK1

Hi Oliver, have you considered completing an abandoned project? There has to be some around given how many kits have been sold over the years. Doing that will save you several hundred hours (conservative estimate) of digging around, fabricating and reinventing the wheel. On the quest for...

    Fitech 30003 on a 302

It's fair to say a carburetor might get you home even though its not happy, however an EFI system will probably shut down. If none of the points raised by Paul are at fault there are several more culprits to consider, fuel pressure at idle and under load, fuel plumbing configuration (return...

    competition ahead

I hope they are successful this time. The more track time these FIA HTP compliant GT40s get the more spectacle for the public attending the events and enthusiasts worldwide. It's also beneficial for the race shops who maintain these cars and or provide "arrive and drive" services. Lots of parts...

tappet sound and oil top of piston

Thanks for chiming in Scott, excellent points. Marcus may get by just replacing the valves seals (without tearing down the engine). Intake guides as you included would be a machine shop job. Always surprises when lighting up an engine that sat around for a while... Cheers Ian

tappet sound and oil top of piston

I suppose how long the motor sat around and where (dry indoors or not) would contribute to your issues. Blue smoke on acceleration is oil (usually rings), oil fouled plug could be valve seal, spark plug wire, distributor cap or spark plug itself. Clacking is most likely hydraulic lifter or...

    New CAV owner

Hi Rick, Welcome aboard, a lot of people were watching that auction. You have a seriously quick car on your hands! There is a wealth of information here to answer any questions you may have as you go. Good idea having the car checked over by a race car shop. Cheers Ian

Hi From a new replica owner

Thanks for posting more pictures of your car. The engine bay and open front clip pics ad to the mystery (and history) of the car. I'm wondering if there's an early tube frame GT40 replica chassis under there with Fiero rear subframe and suspension grafted on? Very interesting...

Hi From a new replica owner

Welcome aboard. That's a pretty good looking car you have there Jim. Looks nothing like the Fiero based GT40 kits I'm familiar with from back in the day. They had GT40(ish) front and rear clips on a stock Fiero cab and wheelbase. The car in the picture appears to have a correct roof spider...

Quality V belt that will work on Sanden & Roush pulleys?

Brad, thanks for posting the pictures. Whatever belts are shown in the photos are too narrow. The top of belt should be at the top of the V. It appears that you are running at the base of the V. The belt drives on the side of the V not the base. Tightening the belt only leads to shorter belt...

Quality V belt that will work on Sanden & Roush pulleys?

A picture tells a thousand words... It would be nice to see your belt path and condition of the deceased belts. The belt path must be strait across all pulleys involved with that belt. If there's an offset between the crank and water pump or a/c pump there's a problem. If the a/c pumps' pulley...

    The F#@&ing things on FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great suggestions here and thanks Tom for the link to Kidde Technologies. Put in the best you can afford but at the very least a driver accessible master battey switch and cockpit mounted small fire extinguisher is essential.

    CAV GT40

Hi Leon, beautiful work on your CAV, a ton of work there but you already know that! The A/C works very well on the CAV GTs by the way. Just a heads up... pay close attention to the belt paths and a/c compressor mounting in relationship to pulley offset to crank pulley. Should be no offset...

    Rear Clip Support

No but with a dimension drawing on a napkin and the photo you could get a couple made at a local fab shop:) These are fitted to an RCR GT40, maybe look there first. Cheers Ian

    CAV or RCR GT40 WHY?

You may want to look into buying a car already here and done car or a partially built or abandoned kit. Also it's worth mentioning that in order of magnitude the difficulty to build a GT40 is at least four times more work than a Factory Five Cobra and it will cost a lot more than you planned...

    RCR GT40 THROTTLE ISSUES...

Hi Kim, It's easy to fall in love with these cars, as Lee said a beautiful car. The throttle pedal return spring I made from stainless steel wire. There's not much room to play with at the pedal pivot, however in the absence of a manfactured spring this works very well. Cheers Ian
