For Sale- The KVA that started it all.....

I remember 'Kevin' showing me this car in 1992, when he was overhauling it for Ford Swansea, in readiness for some promotional work. It then went back in the museum I believe. It was indeed a nice looking GT40, but has curiosity value rather than performance. I believe I have the last KVA ever...

What oil are you all using?

I'm using Castrol Magnatex as well. 'For Older engines' for my 66 289 & 'For Modern engines' for my 2004 Mustang-based 302. A friend of mine is an oil tester. His job was to run engines of all ages with oil of all types, flat out for 24 hours, then strip & examine them. He found with the...

    FORD GT on TOP GEAR

Lets not forget Mr. Clarkson is a motoring journalist, not necessarily a motor sport devotee. We lovers of the GT40 are a fringe group. It'd be nice to have our cars emblazoned across the screen, but there are a lot of other Top Gear watchers, possibly dreamers, non-drivers, and...

    Long term engine storage

My 289 was laid up, out of the car, for 20 years. The valve springs were slackened, and oil was squirted down the bores. That was it. Apart from blowing lots of smoke out at startup, no problems! Tony.

    Am i too tall?

You may find it easier to make a decision by joining a club. The GT40 enthusiasts club has a mix of cars with a mix of driver sizes. If you then attend their monthly meetings, you could get to sit in more GT40's than any other way. Tony.

    Brake Pipes.

A friend of mine used to be the manager of the Subaru rally team, and he recommended that all the brakelines are run in stainless steel braided teflon. He claimed that they were just as resistant to expansion as solid lines. I fitted Racetech flexible lines throughout, and could never get a hard...

    Shock aborber length

Chris, You might like to try Rally Design for springs... Working on the basis that the first 2 sets of springs are going to be wrong, cheapest is best. Tony.

    Alternator Grounding

Hi, It might be better to use a heavy braided cable fron the alternator to the chassis, after all, thats where the battery is connected ! Tony.

    Shock aborber length

Chris, I had to go the custom-made route. Measure where the wheel hits the bodywork, and the suspension arm bottoms on the chassis, deduct 10mm for safety and there you have the max & min. The longer you can make the damper body, the better. The bumpstops are added after. When I had my AVO...

    Spring rates

Hi Chris, As all GT40 vendors suspension specs differ, only those pertaining to your KVA are valid. I have a type C KVA with 400lb front and 600lb back, and it works well. Bear in mind though that mine has an all-iron Ford 302, and if yours has any aluminium engine parts, then I'd suggest going...

    Heater plumbing.

Hi, In the UK, the heater isn't for warmth, but to provide hot demist air to clear the windscreen, so its got to work quickly in cold or wet (i.e. most of British ! ) weather. For this reason mine's plumbed direct through the water pump, so it gets all the engine heat before the thermostat...

    Finally met Robert Logan

You could eat your dinner off the floor of Robert's factory, only he probably wouldn't let you ! The cleanest, tidiest factory I've seen. Tony.

    clutch setup

Need a bit of detail here. What engine, gearbox, flywheel, bellhousing, adaptor plate, AP clutch, release bearing, slave cylinder ? I have installed a single plate APracing clutch- its fine for my 289 4V with R21t gearbox. So, what have you got ? Tony.

Insurance in France for a UK car ?

Answering my own question... Outside of the forum, I've been told that it is possible to insure a UK-plated car using insurance from Groupama. I'll have to check this out when I next get out to france, but if anyone else has more, then please add to this string. Still a lot of doubt in my mind...

    V-Belt Part#?

Hi Yuji, The vee-belts are sold by the centimetre length. Cut the old belt, stretch it out and measure it. The figure in centimetres generally appears in the part number somewhere, but knowing the cm length means any motor factor can sell you a replacement. Good Luck, Tony.

Insurance in France for a UK car ?

Greetings, Has anyone experience of insuring their GT40 in France with a non-French reg.plate ? I am moving to France this year, but want to avoid the bureaucracy of registering my GT40, car, van & motorcycle in France. I have had one quote for 3rd party only for a van, via a broker, which...

    Renault transaxle questions

Hi, There is an entry on R21T gearboxes in the Forsale file, though its not clear whether they are in fact Turbo versions. If you are interested, I have for sale a secondhand R25 gearbox. This is the same as the R21T except for the diff ratio- it will be slightly lower geared ( 3.87 instead of...
