    The italian racing Superformance

Yeah the Mirages, but Paul Hawkins ran a 351 in AMGT2 placing 3rd at Karlskoga 11 Aug '68. Apparently these motors were a preproduction version of the 351.

Design differences between street and race gearboxes

Yes, basically its because they are designed that way to facilitate quick ratio changes. I remember at the old Wigram aerodrome cicuit with a long back straight, and with respect particularly to Formula Ford, top speed was often influenced by the prevailing wind which could be variable and...

    Solid Mount Engine and Trans

Solid mounts on mine Troy. No vibrations or rattles when idling or at speed. As Mike said, if your motor is properly balanced you should have no issues. Mine is internal balance and mounted on engine plates at front and rear of block. Gearbox was initially left unsupported out the back but...

    Russ Noble - 63 today

Thanks guys! What can I say? Another year older and deeper in debt..... One foot in the grave the other on a banana skin..... Heaps of clichés, take your pick. Life is good.:pepper:

This thread has lots of trans info http://www.gt40s.com/forum/gt40-tech-powertrain-transaxles/21891-new-transaxle-comparison-discussion-thread.html See post#47 for the specifics you want

Care & Feeding of Knock-Off / On wheels

OK Frank, so what do you torque them to? Also Frank, LHT LHS or LHT RHS?

Care & Feeding of Knock-Off / On wheels

What do you weigh? You could try what we impoverished Kiwis (and probably others) do...... Say you weigh 200lbs.... 450 ft-lbs is 200 lbs acting at 2.25 ft. If you set up your tri spinner tool so that you can use an extension bar on it and stand on the bar 2.25 ft out from the centre of the...

McLaren replica build base on a Manta

Leon, I remember Neil Doyle's F5000 Begg FM2 had a crossover on a chevvie motor so if you can remember what that sounded like you will know! Too long ago for me, I can't even remember what the weather was like yesterday.

Why does my 302 SBF get so hot and lose coolant?

OK, well given that little gem I would say your new circulation system has too much bypass. Go back to the old plumbing layout, which will circulate more water through the radiator, obviously making it run cooler. Whoever told you it was wrong has given you a bum steer.

Why does my 302 SBF get so hot and lose coolant?

Thats actually waterpump inlet. Essentially the old setup means you are only running one bypass istead of two, which is better from a cooling perspective. However when the heater is off (water valve closed) there will be no flow through this and in some engines, if you are running a...

Why does my 302 SBF get so hot and lose coolant?

What Jac Mac is saying about the restrictor is that you might be getting too much flow bypassing the radiator if the heater is on. If Andy's suggestion doesn't effect a cure. I assume you are running a thermostat? What happens when you take it out? If its still getting too hot without the...

Use a drop gear to lower/raise gearbox?

What the heck are you planning? An extreme off roader? You are contemplating a G50 in that orientation? You must want the motor still higher, because getting it lower is easy. That is, unless you are running massive diameter rear wheels and need to drop it more than what you would achieve by...

    RF 117 wins !!

My take on it is that he won the race which is the whole idea of the exercise. See the first post in his build log http://www.gt40s.com/forum/gt40-build-logs/22164-rf-117-a.html He knew what he had to do to win that race and did it. There is simply no point in forcing an issue in a corner and...

McLaren replica build base on a Manta

Re: Headers finally tacked up Ah but Terry, its the sound! It'll be worth all the extra work! But just to cheer you up, how authentic is it? Did Mclarens ever have crossover exh? ;)

    COG

Ah well! That is the sixtyfour thousand dollar question! I have no idea, not so easy to measure. I would suggest maybe 150mm above the crank centreline. Percentagewise CoG height is going to vary greatly from car to car, depending on whether the input shaft is above or below the output...

    COG

There is probably not going to be a lot of variance between models. CoG of cars with big blocks and heavy transaxles will obviously be a bit further rearwards unless some heavy items are placed near the front to compensate eg battery. Since no one has replied to this since you posted. My car...

    Kiwi scratchbuilt

Oh NO!! Hmmmmm...... Have you outsourced that 1st gear job to your mates in China?? Jeez Lim, this is a precision racecar! We don't want any cheap Chinese crap in it!!! :D :pepper:

Gear rod movement distance comparison table

Integral bellhousing on the 930 which Hewland and ZF don't have. I take it that you are referring to the length from the front of the case to the output shaft, not overall.

Dead right Ian. I've already PMed him for the link to his splitter posts. Perhaps Paul should show the link here for all to see.....
