Old Tornado- Bringing Back to Life

Boris, incredible work. I cannot imagine how meticulous you have to be to derive these curves from 2D layouts. You should've picked an easier car shape....like a DeLorean! The Coyote engine bay modifications are almost done. I welded in temporary bracing to ensure the horseshoe and outer...

    GT-Forté / GTS40 - cockpit gear linkage space

Not to resurrect this for a tangent but....that tunnel should never get any hotter than the coolant pipes, assuming it is totally boxed off (no airflow) and the pipes aren't insulated from the other lines/electrical. How is this different than a brake line running across a firewall a few inches...

    Brake and clutch cylinder...

Renato has what assembly? Is that a Wilwood part number? EDIT: Found it... I was nervous about the lack of power brakes until I drove a buddy's car with a 6:1 ratio recently. I had bad memories from my first car...'67 Plymouth Valiant, 4 wheel drum, manual brakes, manual steering. It always...

    Brake and clutch cylinder...

Darrin, have you looked at sizing? I built this exact model of pedal in CAD based off of the drawings on wilwood's site, and dropped it in my Tornado assembly. To get room to fit the masters, your pedals end up literally touching the floor. This is why the choices are pretty much limited to a...

Old Tornado- Bringing Back to Life

An update on the recent framework- The new crossmember is welded in, and the old one will come out after all other engine bay work is done. No reason to remove stiffness while welding/cutting. The dovetail of the outer sill rail past the bulkhead has been corrected. A temporary support...

    Fuel tanks

Look at Oriol's build thread. They shortened the passenger tank, and basically took the chopped off bit and plugged the open end, then stuck it back up there. Instant swirl pot.

    Fuel tanks

That exact setup has been detailed in some diagrams. As I think about it this morning, I am leaning more and more towards installing a restrictive baffle plate in the passenger tank and running the aeromotive pump in the rear. Between that and a check valve in a tank crossover, I'm thinking...

    Fuel tanks

Thanks Renato! Just to answer a question from earlier for those who don't want to read through the PDF...The mustang fuel setup IS returnless, BUT, the standalone wiring kit and PCM for the coyote is for a return-style fuel system, NOT a stock mustang setup.

    Fuel tanks

Renato, I drive a 2012 Mustang GT. I've had it at Lime Rock and at many autocrosses. Never a problem with fueling ;) This is not saying much, because the Mustang has split tanks in the rear, and has a very short run front-to-rear. The GT40 tanks, even with a sump...when you brake with low fuel...

    Fuel tanks

Renato, that link wasn't working for me. Don't have time to explore the jegs site right away to try to get it another way... So, Aeromotive really recommended this over a swirl tank/low pressure pump setup? You can't get much worse of a tank shape than the GT40 pontoons for a pump that needs to...

    Fuel tanks

If you think there's a chance this thing could be sucking air every once in a while, it might be easier to go with an external pump that you can get at to replace easily.

Old Tornado- Bringing Back to Life

Catching up to where the frame is at now- I've been busy making bracing in preparation to cut out the upper engine bay rails. Slight detour to get my buddy's TIG welder running again after 3 years of being a mousetrap. One thing I am fixing is the upper outermost framerails, where the top of...

    Link tanks?

That is a good source of information, Renato! I was looking at the diagrams near the bottom of that thread....I am planning on running a 5/8" or larger equaliser line near the rear of the tanks across the back rail in the engine compartment, with a one-way valve, shorten the passenger tank to...

Servo assisted steering and brakes - why?

Jim, 5:1 seems pretty small ratio for manual brakes. How bad is the pedal throw like that? I'm in the middle of sketching up an adjustable pedal box for mine. None of the wilwood/tilton hanging assemblies were close enough...either put the masters through the top paneling or put the pedals way...

Old Tornado- Bringing Back to Life

It's a good idea, David. It would certainly add a bit of rigidity to the top of the horseshoe. Ideally, you could run some legs down from the top of the bulkhead, like the newer GT. Doing this and doing a rollcage would add a LOT of stiffness to the chassis. Not the greatest tube-frame...

Servo assisted steering and brakes - why?

I've been just doing some brake research today on this very subject, coincidentally. The Tornado pedal box gives ~4:1 ratio. There's a significant packaging problem if you want to get more ratio than that and still maintain a good pedal location.

Old Tornado- Bringing Back to Life

Boris- That is really, really excellent stuff. Thanks so much for sharing, and I will be watching for another model! Many here have already been using your current model. David- Thank you for your input, but your second picture didn't come through! I'm interested in what you're suggesting if...

Old Tornado- Bringing Back to Life

Hi Boris, Thanks for sharing the model. Can I ask how you constructed it? Ron, great to hear that you can get that level of support. I hear so much about the 'corporate structure' of Ford putting a damper on their aftermarket performance efforts. Another update here.. I got around to...

    Low profile seat runners/sliders?

Have you poked around Summit Racing's website? Alternatively, I have some low-profile sliders kicking around from the previous owner that I will not be using. I'll take a look at them when I get home.

Connecticut Car show- Rentschler Field 4/14

Hi guys, For those of you in the Connecticut area, there's a huge car show put on by members of the UCONN car club this Sunday. I've been helping at the show for a few years now. Lloyd has been going with his '40 for a number of years, and it is always a highlight of the show and usually...
