So how many miles have you driven your GT40...

I'm curious as to how much actual useage these cars get...still mulling this over and want to put something like 8,000-9,000 mi/yr on a car or its of no use to me...I like driving my "toys" and don't "collect" so like to have one really fun car at a time. Is this realistic for something like a...

    GT40 Experts

Back in 1983, I worked the entire L.A. Auto Show for Jim Russell...after that experience, I no longer tolerate people who want to insult my intelligence with pure BS about "their" experiences. I rarely meet pure BSers but I simply don't suffer them any more.

    Right-hand drive in the U.S.?

The thing I was thinking of the most was that going on a fun drive on a twisty road, when you come up to pass a slower car...you are going to be on the wrong side to have a good view of oncomming traffic unless you sit WAAAAY back. Oh and you can't go through a drive-through

    Gettrag tranny opinions?

Thanks, read that and it was very informative. Still trying to get a feel for the actual cost of this whole thing but I'll keep researching hehehe. Finding out the engine sits two inches lower with the ZF is one of those REALLY IMPORTANT things to know and pushes the budget necessary (in my...

    Gettrag tranny opinions?

Having gone through that with the ZF, is it something that they'll sell for CAVs similarly equipped in the future and, if you don't mind me asking, how much is it costing to "finish" the car and what engine are you putting in? TIA

    replica: most reliable??

Somehow I didn't get this one in there...this is my current prime candidate but I'm looking for a turn-key car not a kit: CAV

    replica: most reliable??

Being new to the research, I can give you several links to manufacturers without actually knowing too much more about them. They're in no particular order and represent only MY personal collection, there may be others (but I haven't found them yet) ERA replicas GT40 New Zealand GT supercars...

    Gettrag tranny opinions?

Noticed that most of the CAV's coming on the market complete are using the inexpensive Gettrag Audi transmission. My personal experience with Audi's wasn't too good but then again that car had a ZF tranny hehehehe. Was wondering what people think of "that" transmission...I'm counting on you...

    MkIII @ Barrett-Jackson

Well if CAV's are going to fetch $118k, lets all make an agreement to take turns each year taking one so the market doesn't get flooded. Man, that's amazing...there was a perfectly good brand new one on EBAY for $75k... Nice CAV on ebay

    The world's ugliest GT40

Re: The world\'s ugliest GT40 All discussions of the relative merits of the original kit designer or the condition of the particular car aside. How can one not just fall off their chair carefully reading the description. My favorite line is: "Look at it this way, it is a kind of car that you...

    BEST REPLICA FOR THE BUCK?

So far, the only GT40 I've spent any time around is a friends "Mk V" Safir car...and the fit and finish and "quality" of that car is what you would expect for a short-use race car. The fiberglass is very lightly laid-up with pretty much complete weave showing and the body is incredibly ripply...

Dreams can come true - 34 years later!

Actually, I'd be more than happy to host any 917 pictures...my Fotki site won't accept videos but feel FREE to e-mail me any pictures of your 917 project. I pay a yearly flat fee with no limit to space and so to upload a few more pics is nothing. And you know what a 917 fan I am!

    MkIII @ Barrett-Jackson

That's what's irritating...it didn't show up as being sold after the auction! Wonder if it was withdrawn...it had no reserve and I wonder if the seller got nervous.

    MkIII @ Barrett-Jackson

Gall Dangit! I was looking for lot 741 which was a CAV GT40 and the TV coverage stopped before it came up and it doesn't show on today's results...did anyone see what it went for?

I want to know what all you guys are building or waiting to build.

Ah you guys are like drug dealers to a crack addict hehehehe. Thanks for the info. I think I've figured out a financing scheme that would work but I have to wait out the balance of the lease on my 996...the market for those is so soft, I'm likely to have to keep it till lease end...2.5 years away

I want to know what all you guys are building or waiting to build.

Ah, this is the new zealand car: New Zealand GT40 And I'm pretty sure I wouldnt ever track a car with a monocoque...particularly a stainless steel one. If the manufacturer were down the street MAYBE but it would be more trouble than it's worth if the thing got pranged on a race track. At least...
