100% Accurate GT40 Monocoque

Morning all,

I am a new member to this forum, and wonder if I could pick your collective brains please?

I am interested in building a totally accurate '65 spec Mark 1 GT40 for historic racing in the U.K and Europe, and wonder if any of you can offer advice as to which are the best "base" tubs to chose for this. Please do not think I am being a motoring snob when I say that tube frames are not an option (from what I have seen there are some fine examples of those out there as well) - it is merely that these will not be permitted for the racing which I intend to do.

I have seen a couple of very impressive monocoques on offer in Sweden, but as yet have not received a reply to my emails. I have also seen on this site examples made by Mirage in the UK and Dave Brown in New Zealand, and wondered what the forum made of these as well? If there are any other makers out there as well, please do mention them.

Ideally, I would like to start off with a tub and body, and to take it from there really. I presume that it would make sense to get the tub and body from the same supplier in order to maximise the chances of these being at least roughly compatible and needing the minimum of "fettling" to get them to fit. I foresee this being a labour of love (my father and I have just completed the restoration of a Series 1 3.8 E Type which my parents bought for me as a barn find when I was 3 months old - and I am now 32!), so I am not in any great hurry to make a decision immediately. Obviously any guidance which anyone could give on likely pricings would be more than welcome.

In the meantime - happy GT40ing!
