Accusumps

Anyone have experience with Canton's Accusump? I am contemplating the installation of one for pre-oiling just as much as oil pressure rentention if I ever have the occasion to pull 1.2 Gs and uncover the pickup. I plan on plumbing a remote filter system and an oil cooler(with fan)in while I am at it.

thanks

Brian,

I have a 3qt. system ready to go on my car when it comes out of the paint shop. They are simple devices that are great insurance and are used on virtually every serious race car. The electric valving system can be sourced and built for about 1/3 of what they sell for with the systems. If you buy a used one, the rebuild kit is around $10 and consists of 4 large O-rings. I did buy a nice oil filled gauge for mine as well.

What else would you like to know?

Regards,
Lynn

Thanks Lynn,
Was wondering first, for example if they work as advertised. Then do they hold pressure over extended storage periods? Say for example, the engine sits idle for 6 weeks? If pressure drops, can I just use air pressure to pump it back up? What about heat in the engine bay? Where do you put the Accusump so it won't get cooked?

Hi Brian

Below is pic as was installed on Roys Mk1 GTD. Worked very well for Pre-oiling - would hold 40psi + on switch on for some 25-30 seconds (engine not running). Worked reasonably well in corners and held pressure when not in use for ages!

One thing to consider is a separate switch to isolate from ignition so the valve only opens when you want to start the engine. Otherwise (for example), you will discharge the unit if you switch the ignition on to check fuel gauges - just a thought.
