Anyone have any new info on the 'new' GT40?

Anyone have any new info on the \'new\' GT40?

I'm just curious. As far as I know, it is to be released next summer, but not actually on sale until 2004.

My understanding is that the first units (up to 100) will be for race purposes to facilitate promotion. Then the street cars will start arriving. Also heard that the none race versions may be fitted with a 370hp V6. This is all rumor and second hand info from a conversation with a gentleman who has placed his money in the hands of a friendly dealer.

If they go for a 370BHP V6, even though that is plenty of power, that will surely disappoint given expectations of a 500BHP powerplant that was hyped when they announced it. Also, what a shame that they would go with a V6 instead of a V8.

I hope that V6 is just a rumor. I can't believe Ford would go through the trouble of making a car like the GT40 to elevate their image only to have it taken away with a lesser engine.

I had occasion to talk to an old aquiantance, a Ford dealer, he of the present variety, I of the former, and he brought up the subject of GT 40s. According to his understanding, which I place above most on-line blather- Ford has not yet set prices, distribution policy or other facts that would allow a dealer or customer to really claim to have a "new GT40 on order."

Current dealer buzz has "Presidents Award" winning dealer getting the first years production. A statement by a Ford exec that "as with the Thunderbird, all dealers will get one before any dealer gets a second car" will require a production run of over 4000 cars. Present thoughts have no more than 1500 per year after the first years output which is thought to be no more than 150-200 units.

Moral of the story? Don't pay some guy bucks because he has a deposit with "Bubba Motors" East Butthole, Ark. Many of the cars will be keep by the dealer principal and the balance will go to the highest bidder. Would you sell your car for less than the market would bear?
