audi 012 ratios

hi there ive been trawling the net to find ratios for the 012 but come up blank but what i did read was that apparently most came with a 4.11/1 final drive but the auto apparently has a 3.25/1 final drive what id like to know is would the auto final drive fit the manual box and would this improve gearing all the best andy

Andys on this thread quoted them as follows:

Type 5-Speed Manual
Final Drive 3.89:1
1st Gear Ratio 3.50:1
2nd Gear Ratio 2.12:1
3rd Gear Ratio 1.43:1
4th Gear Ratio 1.03:1
5th Gear Ratio 0.79:1

Those ratios would be for the Boxster, but are also common to many 012 codes. Stricktly from (poor) memory, the 012 gearbox ring and pinion ratios range from 3.44:1 to 5.29:1. One quite common ratio is 3.70:1.

podge, I'm not sure what you're looking to accomplish, but I'm quite certain the ring and pinion from the automatic will not interchange with the manual gearbox. Like you, I prefer to deal with net ratios, as they reveal much more conveniently the comparisons between gearbox to gearbox ratios.

I am not able to determine the final drive ratio but the overall ratios from input shaft to axles for a 012 box I took from a 1989 Audi 90 with a code of ALP are as follows.

1st 13.2-1
2nd 8-1
3rd 4.75-1
4th 3.8-1
5th 3.2-1
rev 12.8-1
I checked this by placing a clutch disc on the input shaft and marking it and an axle flange. I dont expect them to be exact but should be pretty close.
