I thought you might be interested in the work that has gone into completing a Superformance GT40. The work we completed was due to it being necessary, by choice, or required for compliance.
Changes to GT40
New Door locks, and fabricate pull down handles
Steering column made into one piece by steering wheel
Steering rack lifted for bump steer
Sway bar linkages modified
Number plate brackets front and rear
Steering wheel changed
Changed location of oil reservoirs
Modified bell housing, with flap
Replaced Engine mounts as originals supplied weren’t correct
Silencing exhaust
Remake gear shift linkages
Install CO2 sensors on exhaust for Dynatune
Firewall modified, with moulded cover plate
Modified upholstery( chop rear out of seats, and new centre consol between seats)
Installed headrests
Install pedal stop for clutch
Had to change plumbing to brake/clutch as plumbed wrong from factory
Hardline brake and clutch lines at pedal box
Return spring on brake pedal
New brake pedal
Update nuts and bolts throughout car to include split washers and nylok nuts
All nuts and bolts upgraded and stamped ISO
New ignition barrel
Installed instrument name plate
Install fire extinguisher
Install rear vision mirror
Install side mirrors, fabricated bases
Installed brake light
Install number plate light
Installed gas struts to hold up rear clam
Installed locking strut on front hatch
Air con gassed
Bearing out of suspension and replaced with stamped ones
Sandblasted suspension arms to have them xrayed, then powder coated again
Installed trickle charge do battery
Installed swirl tank, 1 x low pressure pump and 1 x high pressure pump
Installed fuel injection
Installed dry sump pump and reservoir
Changed out internal hydraulic clutch cylinder after seal broke
Heat shield installed
Install fuel lines, oil lines, Autronic computer, electric transmission pump
Dry sump pulley made
Bracket made for alternator
Adaptor plate made for steering wheel conversion
Fabricate speedo adaptor (made by Robinson’s)
Installed cutoff switch from battery
Fabricated half shaft adaptors
Exchanged cv joints for Pantera universals
Transaxle crown wheel changed over
Secure all cables and lines to chassis at every 300mm
Gulf transfer sticks and rondel numbers
Made plate to hold petrol pumps
Installed pressure gauge on line to fuel rails
Replace seals on fuel rails
Install all fuel and oil lines with braided lines and AN fittings
Install locating pin receiver for front and rear clams
Changing out steel above pedal box so that it bolts in and can be removed to access pedal box
Made jack adaptor for front and rear of car
Made tow adaptor for winc
Wire wheel for knock ons
Bump steer test
Doors off
Replaced cap on wiper (Porsche 911)
Replace cut seat belt
Cut clearance out of top of firewall for distributor
Shortened water neck on water pump to stop it rubbing on firewall
45 degree bends put onto exhaust
Wiper motor was wired up wrong
Split on rubbers for doors
GT40 carpet logo on tanks
Relocate rear sway bar as wouldn’t fit under exhausts (turned on side)
Installed spring washers under all fixings for petrol tanks, front and rear.
Faulty fuel cap - rethreaded (possibly cross threaded from factory)
Made bracket for new reservoirs and plate to close up old location, upgraded from rubber lines to steel braided lines
Shortened fuel rails to make room for heat shield
New rubbers for suspension
Fitted collector tank for condensation from engine
Changed distributor as one supplied wouldn’t fit, and had to be compatible with fuel injection
New starter motor
Engine in
Ordered 3 x lots of alcantara before correct one arrived.
Changed 5 reverse gears to 5 forward gears (long story)
Install door pull handles
Modify pedal box top fixing bracket so that it is bolted and can be removed.
Extra height to oil cooling tower so it clears battery
Fabricated shroud to cover intrusion of water pump through firewall
Exchanged locating studs for top two internal bell housing bolts for easier access to internal hydraulic clutch in the future
Dashboard out due to factory paint peeling off - painted / reinstalled
To do: install 2 x Stewart Warner pumps, install 3x rondel lights and wiring, connect air con
