Classic Days in Magnycours April 25 & 26

I was part of this annual meeting in France where I usually go with my 1963 1/2 Galaxie, the GT40 is still no ready. 29,000 spectators and almost 2000 car with about 300 on track. Its is the largest trackday in France. Some old pilots was there, Derek Bell, Jacky Ickx, Jacques Laffite, with demo on F1 car and prototypes. Just a few photos of the GT40 familly and Le Mans prototypes for the rest you may check the web sites.

Thank you for posting Jean-Marc, and for the link. I don't think I saw a Lola T70MKIIIB represented there. I did particularly like the Ranchero full of guys. Looked like a good time.

Regards Brian

Brian, thank you for your comments. I confirm that a Lola was there (may be 2), it was runing in my serie. But even with my 482 Tunnel Port engine, I was unable to follow it :).

There was another one I think

Some other interesting cars WM, Ferrari P4 (replica I guess), Alpine 542 (Le Mans winner), Alpine 3l from 1968. There was also a LeMans winner with Derek Bell Porsche 956 and a 917 replica (6cyl engine)

All beautiful cars Jim. I was looking for the 3B coupe. I saw the two spiders. The 917 was a very nice addition. I certainly enjoyed all the pictures.

You’re not going to get away with talking about a 482 Tunnel Port and 63-1/2 Ford Galaxy without more info and pictures! ;o)

OK Randy, you its not necessary to push me a lot !
The car was built in the factory of San José and start its life in California with a 289 engine. I do not know details but in end of the 90s the car was use in drag racing. A Dutch guy bought it to use it on race track in Europe and rebuilt it. He redo the body to create a light weight version with fiberglass panels, inner and outer fenders, bonnet, trunk, front and back bumper. He put a safety cage and a 390 engine built by Southern GT in USA. I use it for a few races and stop, it was an ufinish project.
I bought it in 2004 and in more than 20 years built a real racing car, the only thing I kept was the body and the safety cage. Presently the car is conformed to the FIA documents excepted the engine that has a Nascar 1967 configuration.
Engine is a 482 Tunnel Port with
- 427 block top oiler with external oil lines to lubricate each crankshaft bearing (the bloc was initially used on GT40 and probably came as a spare bloc for Le Mans race in 65 or 66 and is compatible with dry sump)
- 1967 Tunnel Port Heads and single carburator 1967 Tunnel Port intake pipe
- Scat Crankshaft 4.25" stroke
- H beam rods 6.7"
- Mahle piston 4.25"
- Melling Oil pump
- Accusump
- Full roller
- AL1 ignition with Hall effect distributor
I replace all the standard bushing with Derlin.
The pivot of the front suspension were replaced by performance one to bloc in place the camber.
A Panhard bar prevent the lateral play on the back suspension and stefners was addded on the leaf spring.
Koni shok absorber on the back and AE1 adjustable on front.
Back brakes are standard 10.5" drums.
Front brake with Ford disks but the calipers are Lucas 3 pistons (origin Aston Martin) conformed to FIA.
Transmission is 4 speed Toploader with 9" rear end and a 3.89/1 ratio with Detroit locker.
Hydraulic Throughout bearing with Centerforce DFX cluth and cermaic disk
Gas tank is aluminum in the trunk (not race conform) and 2 Facet Blue electric pump with filter, regulator and retrun loop.
All the wiring was rebulit.
Tires are 245/60x15 Avon CR6ZZ.
I remove everything inside including the door glass mechninism. The final weight is 1750kg, about 3900lb
With the exception of the Panhard bar (removable), the heads and intake pipe, everyting is in accordance with the FIA documents.
The car is vey effective especially on large racetrack (Dijon, Magnycours, Bugatti tracks) as you may see at Goodwoods but it is more difficult on tracks with a lot of turns. But it has no assistance on the wheel and it is very tiring to drive.
I have a lot of fun to drive it, it is the only one regulary used on race track in France, the others are in Belgium, Sweden and UK mainly. I am not the first on the track but it catch a lot the photographers..
An plenty other good things that I forget.

Absolutely beautiful! Thanks for all the details and photos!
How do you find the performance of the Detroit Locker in high speed corners?

Thank you Randy.
I found the Detroit locker very efficient on a heavy car like the Galaxie. It helps a lot to obtain a healthy behavior on cornering. Their is no surprise you know that the car will glide, iT is not brutal at all, end when you put gas at the end of the corner, it motorize and helps a lot to go out straight.
