Greetings from North Yorkshire - UN1 transaxle problems

Hello everyone, I'm Phil Rock from North Yorkshire and I've been building my replica Ford RS200 for the last ten years. Apologies it's not a GT40 but it is running a similar engine/ gearbox setup. I have found this forum to be very useful for the UN1 posts and general information.
It's been a bit of a start/stop project but it's now getting close to it's IVA test and I'm experiencing problems with selecting gears - particularly reverse. The engine is from a Ford Sierra Cosworth, approx 220bhp, linked to a Renault UN1-04 transaxle, which I believe was fitted to the Renault 25V6. I have also had a Quaife ATB LSD fitted.
Normally with this gearbox setup, you would lift a collar below the gear knob in order to select reverse. I believe the collar was connected by a cable to a reverse detent fitted to the rear gearbox housing. I was told by the gearbox specialist who installed the LSD for me, that the cable system was not required and a blanking plug (cut down bolt) should be screwed in place of the cable connector to ensure that there was no oil leakage. I wonder if this is the reason for the graunching sound every time I try to select reverse?
Any information ideas would be much appreciated.

I don't know what clutch set up you have but is the clutch releasing fully? Maybe jack up the rear wheels off the ground and see if you have clutch drag. Maybe there is no synchro effect on reverse gear. If you are not getting enough movement at the slave cylinder then a bigger master cylinder or a sleeved down slave cylinder will help. I use a sleeved down slave cylinder on my car for this reason.
Cheers
