Gt 40 Chassis number 1140

Hi folks:

A newbie here, looking for any and all info on a GT 40 bearing chassis number 1140. I know it is outside of the regular Gt 40 production, and wonder if it might be a Safir built continuation car or possibly just a replica with a made up chassis number. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it!

Thanks,

Bob LeFlufy

Hi Bob,

If I understand correctly, (with Shelby's you never, ever give a definate answer and more than likely most GT40's....unless one of the SAAC folks endorse it first) but I believe chassis #'s "GT40P 1090 to 1100 and 1115" onward are Mark V's, built by Safir Engineering Ltd, headed by Peter Thorpe. This deal was approved by JW Automotive Engineering Limited. Visually, they are indistinguishable from original cars, except for some re-design of an over-engineered & over complex tub. I gave my Shelby Registry to a buddy, but I will pick it up tonight if he is available and try to give you more insight on this car, if there is any further documentation in the registry. I just did not know Safir built that many additional cars. What else can you confirm about the car?

Happy Holidays

There was a 1140 MkV constructed.
Orange coloured.
Was in CA a few years ago...

All that is in the "Ford GT-40" book by David Hodges is a listing for 1140 stating "R. Stewart". It confirms that this is in the sries of "Mk Vs" based on Peter Thorp's records. It also lists 1139 as "R Stewart. Completed to full race specification."

1139 & 1140 are for sale by Richard Stewart , of Newhall, California. They are
both Safir MKV's. One is completely race
oriented, and has an outrageous price tag.
The other is more road oriented, and just
has a ridiculous price tag! I don't remember the numbers, offhand, but these two cars
aren't even close to any replica buyer's
price range. I believe that the cheaper of the two was $395,000!

Yes and at that price you would really want to use it on the highway...it's nice to see they keep their value and go up but let's not get ridiculous. Anyway, if it's been for sale for a while he's probably got it priced too high.
