GTD dropped floor

Just though some of you may like a look at my dropped floors I will be fitting to my GTD when they are finished.
I made them from 2mm stainless, not the lightest of materials, but really sturdy. I've put a 3" x 1" "ramp" at the front and rear of the floors in case I drive either way over an obstacle. The floors are not quite finished yet, the front and rear will be bent flat when they are welded up. As the material is so tough, the floors will be welded upside down on a flat steel table to ensure they are flat and do not warp. They will then be bonded and riveted to the GTD chassis, and a subframe made up and welded to the chassis to take the seats. The subframe will have small studs welded to it to enable the seats to be bolted down without any fixings going through the floor itself.
I will be doing both the driver and passengers side but I guess there's no reason why just the drivers side cannot be done?
Incidentally, I have a third dropped floor in case anyone is interested in it? (there's nowhere to fit it on my car)
Simon

Just out of interest, when I removed the glassfibre "tub" from my chassis, there were blobs of sikaflex type sealer that were over an inch deep in places as the tub fitted so badly onto the galvanised floor. When the new floors go in, the seats will sit about 2 inches lower in total from where they were!

Nice work Simon.
I like your attention to detail with a separate subframe and no through fixings. I take it that the method will reduce the chances of a sore bum if the floor does take a hit. What will be the actual clearance below the dropped floor?

Dave

As I understand it, the GTD is supposed to run 5" of clearance. These floors will give exactly 1" less.
4" isn't a lot, hence my option of the HD stainless!:stunned:

my understanding was 5" clearance on the road and 4" in Race trim. Not sure where I picked that up from tho.

Just out of interest, now they are welded up, the floors are so strong, I'm thinking of doing away with the idea of the seat mounting frame altogether, the floors will be bolted, bonded and riveted to the chassis, I really can't see the need for any extra support!

Simon,
I still think that the the main advantage is that the seat mounting frame puts some extra space between you and the floor, in the event you do hit a speed bump / brick or piece of 4x4 lying in the road, you might find it kinder on the bum. Less of a spine jarring jolt one might say!
