There is a replica in Australia that has a Porsche based flat 12 complete with horizontal fan I believe. The owner has also done a Moby Dick whale tale 935 with the turbos and horizontal fan as well. It can be done.

mine makes 700ft-lbs so you should be fine.

These cars are so much lighter than the OEM vehicles that the gearboxes were designed for, can push the limits of the torque ratings. Most of us aren't beating on the gearboxes from a standing start anyways.

Your need 16 cylinders:

Maybe two V8's - but then you need to put it under a press to reach the required 180° angle

Yes, you have to chop each ends off the middle casting. So you only end up loosing some of the mains off each end.
