My wife and i are going the South Island on the 23rd of Febuary for two weeks, now you have got me all excited. Can anyone give a heads up on some other things to do and see. We are intending to hire a car and do the self drive thing.

Queenstown, the Fox and Franz Joseph glaciers are must See's. Take a trip on the Tss Earnslaw a twin screw steamer built in 1912. You board her in Queenstown and she will take you to a working farm where you can go horse back trail riding if you wish.
You can join the thrill seekers in the jet boats or go bungee jumping if adrenaline is your thing.
Lot of fishing for trout and salmon in most of the lakes. Milford sound, and Doubtful sound are also beautiful. If you like bush walking there are plenty of treks with magnificent scenery. And great skiing in winter.

What is the exchange rate? Is this going to cost more for less or less for more?? :)

More for less Jack to you, our currency-NZ$- is floating, at moment its around NZ$0.74c to buy US $1.00, or perhaps better for you to figure, for every US Dollar you get NZ $1.34. It can get some fairly large highs & lows, down to the high fifty cent area & occasionally up to the high seventies.
