M12x1.7x70mm Tubular bolt?

OK, here's a challenge:

I'm trying to find a tubular (or hollow) bolt to use as a carrier for my RaceLogic TC Hall transducer. This would replace an M12 bolt holding the rear axle stub carrier to the upright on my SLC. This should be an M12x1.75 x 70mm length. I've check the usual suspects: McMaster, Coast, Lefthander, Bolt Depot, Pitstop with no success yet.

Any links?

Maybe you could get someone to bore a bolt in the lathe for you??
Seems pretty stright forward to me ????
Thge only thing you need to be careful of is making sure there is enough strength left in the bolt to do it original job. Start with at least grade 8.8 bolt

Surely there's another less complicated way to attach/locate the required sensor?

A small light bracket/tap or perhaps further inboard near transmission coupling?

Having experienced an upright failure due to failure of a weld, I'd avoid compromising the capability of a design by reducing one of the component bolt strengths.

Just my 2c...

Hi Kevin and Paul,

Thanks for your thoughtful responses. I have considered the lathe option, starting with a 10.9 grade bolt, but stumbled upon the tubular bolts used by circle track guys. Just couldn't find metric sizes.

The spindle carrier bolts are structurally important for sure, but sheer forces in the longitudinal/vertical planes seem to be taken by metal to metal contact from the spindle resting in the upright flange and torque should be minimal since there is the spindle bearing present. So presumably, the bolt will see less force from these elements and will be more for locating the spindle carrier in the upright. BUT.....I'm no engineer.

Paul, I'm seriously considering alternative locations, including inboard near the CV joint bolts, etc. The idea of the tubular bolt came from noting that the bolt points directly to the inner head of the ARP wheel studs. Other considerations include road hazards at the proposed outboard location.

This is definitely a work in progress......
