Hi guys, just joined today. Im big into ford Hipo stuff and have gained a good collection by years of playing with 427 stuff with cobras and galaxies. My specialty is cammer 427 SOHC stuff, got one in a 1956 tbird and putting one in a 66 galaxie 7 litre and another in a ERA Cobra. always wanted a GT40 MK2. I joined as i was looking for a used superformance gt40 mk2, hopefully find one thats been sitting and needs some work like a motro rebuild or a roller etc to be easier on the wallet. any other Manufacturers i should look at for a mk2? and what would be the transaxle of choice behind a mk2 with a FE?

ERA built at least one 390 block roadster with a ZF. There are a few SPF big block cars with Quaifes or ZFs. The consensus is the ZF is good for somewhere around 500 hp depending upon driving style, sticky tires. Dropping clutches may vary your mileage. There is a Pantera for sale on BaT right now claiming over 800 hp with a ZF detuned from 1000 hp. I personally doubt the owner has ever gotten close to using all that.

I think your bigger challenge is getting the block to fit in the tub. Front to rear dimensions are really tight with the rear dimension "non-negotiable based on how the transaxle mounts to the tub.

I would do a lot of homework like we all have here before taking that plunge to determine how others have done this fitment. A SBF built to mid 400 hp is a much more compliant car. Good luck and keep us posted on your project.

Agree with 500hp limit on ZF. It's a good trans, but it can be broken. Also wonder whether FE makes sense even in a SPF MKII. It has been done, but does A/C compressor fit?
More importantly any claim on originality is moot unless you find a t44.
