Mexican block

I let my intuition get me by surprize..(translate: I let my libido do the buy)

Ebay item 7931732886 Ford HIPO 302 Mexican Short Block
Engine N° D1ZM-6015-AA. (looks like 1971)
Price: 401.00 $

Purpose: replace my SB302 Marine version by this one once refurbished (expected HP arround 350HP wich is my objective for road and occasional trackdays)

Seller: I guy called Vern in Azalea/Oregon/US with said 40 years mecanic experience on Ford engines.Based on my ctcs with him, I have the feeling he is an honnest person.Anyone some experience with him?.
I know I took some uncalculated risks but its the money worth (for me)on the bid (I hope)

For those based in UK: I assume I will have to adapt my DVLA DOC V5 with new engine number.Does this require only an admin request or is there more to do (like MOT etc)?
Any feedback is welcome.

Fred,
I think it is simply a change of engine number and does not require MOT. I will check out with the local post office and if required I will send you the required form to sort it out. More this evening, in the mean time can you email me an address.

Fred,

I do not consider myself an expert on Mexican blocks, to be honest I don't even know that much about them. In fact the two things are: they are supposed to have a higher nickle content than the other SBFs and there should be a casting mark that says "Hecho en Mexico" somewhere on the block. There are probably others here who can tell you exactly where this should be found.

Those same people might be able to tell you something about the casting numbers which could help identify the block as a true Mexican. I would also ask if it has been magnafluxed or had any other entegrity checks done; don't expect the sellar to come out and tell you that, especially if it didn't pass the test :-(.

Regards,
Lynn

Lynn/Fred,
It is a Mexican and will have Hencho en Mexico in the lifter valley, it also will extra bosses that you don't see on other 302s. The D1ZM is the same as my Mexican in the garage. Also, even though following normal Ford code numbers. it suggests a 1971 Mustang motorsport; if you actually look under the D1ZM, there is a stamping, which demotes the actual casting date.

Where are you guys checking casting numbers? I used to have a website that had the complete history of the windsor and cleveland motors with casting number, factory description of each configuration, etc. That website is now gone and I also have some numbers I want to check now and would like to have the reference info for the future.

Thanks,
Lynn

Lynn,

There is a topic on the site on this subject.
I also have a book of Ford engines that explains the numbers.
If you hve a specific number , let me know and I will give you my feedback.

Fred,
That stamp date denotes, if I remember correctly, that the block was actually cast on 20 July 1973 (20 = date, H = month (July) and 3 = year).

Lynn,
What are the numbers, PM, or post them and I'll tell you what I think (might not be right though /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif)

Brett

Brett,

Tx for info.
If I understand correctly,Block was a creation of a SB302 1971 Ford Mustang Motorsport (in first part of serial number) but built in 1973 (second part of serial numbers).
