At Speed Week in August, 2011, Monster Energy Drink had a big promotion. as they were relatively new to the market. The company went all out and spared nothing on expenses for their big push. They erected a huge black tent, emblazoned with "Monster" and inside there were pretty girls handing out free cans of their energy drinks.
They were generous- "Take as many as you want... how about some for your crew?" Who could refuse an ice-cold drink offered by a beautiful girl on a hot day at the Bonneville Salt Flats? Certainly not me...I developed a liking for their "Absolutely Zero" drink flavor and I bought it whenever I could find it thereafter.
Their promotion was a great success until a sudden rainstorm descended on the Salt and blew the whole tent a mile away! Torrential rain followed and things at the Bend In The Road, where we had parked, became a quagmire.The photos show the result- note our little dog, Doc's feet.
I don't think Monster ever sponsored a Land Speed Racing event ever again.
