Motor Sport - La Ronde Infernale

There's a 'free' copy of this legendary video of the 1969 Le Mans with Motor SPort April issue - just out

Just wathed the vid. EXELLENT!!!!

The view from an on-board camera in the cockpit of a GT40 blasting down the Mulsanne Straight is fantastic.
There is a great comment about not knowing which tree to pick to crash into if you couldn't brake in time to miss the car in front.

I wonder if it will make it overseas with my subscription...doubt it. It would probably be in the wrong format anyhow...

Agree with Paul, excellent video. Just how many times did the lead change in the last few laps? Amazing! They really chuck the cars about compared to todays driving styles.

Hi all
what a great video, this was be the best sports car race ever.
It was great watching the GT40 and Porsche racing to the line after 24 hours.

Chris.

Guys where is this free video from? I'm from Canada and how do I get one? Any way of posting parts of it in the web?

Hello all.
I already had the video from years back but i am pleased that so many of you now have access to it because it helps portray to you what the great days of racing these cars used to be.
I was there in 1969 at the end of the pit straight and i can tell you it was a magical finish. No matter what happens nowadays in racing you will never replicate that era of prototypes, privateers, manufacturers rivalry and sheer raw brutality !!!
Film never gives the true feel and buzz so when us crinklies talk about the good old days you youngsters can eat your hearts out.
Mind you, now i am racing again and with the wonderfull backing of Gulf i wish i had a little more youth.....but then i would,nt have the knowledge.
Regards,
GTA.

Thanks for the tip Jos, I only read this thread yesterday a.m. and rushed out to buy the one and only copy in WHSmiths. Its a great video, as Malc said they throw the cars about. The 917 was doing a clear 4 wheel slide out of the one and only Ford chicane.

Apart from the obvious dice to the finish, the highlight for me was the lap in David Sadlers 40, not quite race speed but still amazing. Having 'toured' the circuit at last years Le Mans Classic it surprising how emascualted it is now especially at the Dunlop bridge section.

Interestingly they made a big thing about better safety but after Tertre rouge the typical line of French trees had one straw bail fixed to their front - no armco there! The pits were scary, its amazing more people weren't run over, and as for the guys standing in the run off area at the end of the Mulsanne!

Get this video if you can.
