I currently have a mid engined Corvair (Kelmark conversion) and have a lot of the same issues that you have in your builds.
I am particularily interested in automatic transaxles as I would like to go that route.

Hey Tim, welcome to the forum. Many years ago I has a Kelmark conversion V-8
327 Chev Corvair Corsa. The weak link was the input shaft on the Saginaw transaxle.
Wish I still had it! Don't know of any automatic that will work except the Fiero (maybe).
