Newbie here-need direction installing 427sbf and RBT into my SPF GT 40 MK II

Never drove never worked on a GT 40 before so i could use a little direction. I have built 2 factory fives and worked on cars before just not this one and i didnt take it apart--and the guy that owned it before me is no longer with us. Im ready to insstall 427 Rousch with McCloud dual disc clutch with hydraulic throw out brg and a RBT 5ds 25. First question is why is my bellhousing have two holes ground into it the top-approx 2x2 inches -they look like they did it so they could get to two bolts or to put the hydraulic lines--not sure. #2 question better to install entire engine/trans as one unit--without the rear body frame ? or put in engine first? #3 throw out bearing has 2 lines going to it--how the heck do you bleed it. Thanks in advance for all your guys help.

Post some pictures and someone will have the exact info you need.

Lots of different bell housings are available so someone will know what you have and the reasons for the holes

Re the 2 lines into the throw out bearing…… fluid in one and the other used to bells out the air.

Good advise--going to get some photos now.

Attached are pictures of the bellhousing which looks like someone ground out 2 holes to get to the bell housing to block bolts. #2 i spread out all the parts that were in a box and i have no idea where the heck they go-they all look customer made. #3 do i run the two hydraulic lines to the Throw out bearing in the side shaft holes that were used for a manual acuated throw out bearing linkage? i took a shot of those twon holes--the lines have to go thru there or the two holes some drilled out. #4 i take it its much easier to install engine with trans all at once? Thanks for you help guys and hopefully somebody knows WTH those parts in the box went too. My trans guys says they dont go in the trans.

Mark, I have a Windsor/RBT as well. I like the clutch setup you are using. I used an internal slave as well but if I was to do it again I would use an external slave. I was sold a Kennedy , 4 inches thick and had to mill it down , not very happy with the fit. be very carful with input shaft length and housing alignment/runout.
I think the holes , ( a pic would help ) are for unbolting the inside bolts without removing the bell and exhaust system.

Looking back at my pics, It would still be a bitch to get at the two top bolts even if I had them. This is a CAV. you may be better of with a Superformance

Mark, those two holes are a common mod that allows you to remove the two internal bolts (nuts if studs are installed), so that the transaxle can be removed without having to remove the engine also. Easier IMO to remove/install engine and transaxle separately, but YMMV.

I did this mod on my car and installed studs in those two locations, which are helpful to guide the transaxle into place.

I would rethink the internal throw out bearing especially as it looks like a McLeod one. I had 2 of those leak and finally got fed up and went with an external slave. The McLeod bearing kept leaking at the swivel fittings. It is easier to install the engine first, then the bellhousing, and finally the trans.
Some of those parts are the shift linkage on the right side of the trans. It might be worth buying Blas Costagli's workshop manual for installation illustrations. Also Olthoff makes a better shift linkage than the standard parts.

Thank you for the reference to my SUPERFORMANCE GT40 Owners Manual. I have many manuals in the hands of owners already and they all seem to be quite happy with the two book set. (electronic or printed) I want to make it clear that it is offered as an "Owners Manual" and not a "Shop Manual." While it does contain a lot of technical info and the Service Bulletins are filled with tech information, I don't want someone expecting way way more that is implied by a "Shop Manual" label.
Still can be had by Christmas .

I had to replace the bellhousing and it ended up being a Kennedy bellhousing and it doesnt fit exactly flat againt the trans case in all areas. There are a few areas with a gap

Wow what a nice looking set up you got there. How much did the 8 stack cost you? Very clean
