NO new ICE cars registered after 2030 ?

Hi Everyone,
I'm back from our tour around Utah & Arizona. So, tomorrow (10th May) I'll be at the open day at AK Sportscars in Peterborough (UK) and will chat with Jon & Neil to see if they have had any official communication and to get their view on the 2030 situation.
We had an absolute ball on our trip. Met up with loads of car guys (& girls) and had really enjoyable conversations. I still can't get my head around the lack of speed cameras. Here in the UK it is getting worse by the day ...... we desperately need a political revolution (revolt) !!!!!!

Thank you very much for posting the Press Release. I have communicated it to Jon & Neil at AK Sportscars this morning.
It is very interesting that it references both McLaren and Aston Martin as examples of companies who will exempted without any mention of volumes per annum.
I can confirm that AK (like everyone else) have not received any official communication.
There also appears to be a situation whereby the DVSA will no longer accept an Engine Dating Certificate as proof of the year of manufacture of a cylinder block. Jon at AK is involved with further dialogue with the DVSA as to use his words, it's like an official saying they will not accept a Birth Certificate to prove your age!

There is no word big enough to describe the mess that the politicians & pen pushers have created........
There is a glimmer of hope for Alvis, Morgan, Caterham etc. but the later pair have already spent money developing electric models.

Hi All,
No real news, however, the current government are making noises about aligning UK car legislation with that of the EU. That would make Lane Assist, Parking Assist, etc, etc, a requirement on all new UK cars. That would almost certainly kill off the UK 'kit car' industry.
It would also entail a massive re-write of the IVA test requirements. Given that there is only 4 years & 5 months remaining to register an ICE powered car it seems unlikely that this re-write would actually happen.
So what will happen? Your guess is as good as mine ...... unless you happen to work in the Department of Transport.
As usual in this thread, none of our friends in the trade have received any communication.
If you have any factual information please share it.

A further update to what I wrote just a few hours ago. There has been a statement today using the words, "it should be explicitly understood that the government intend to align with EU car legislation". It went on to mention the inclusion of automatic emergency dialling and even 'black box' breathalyser systems in all new cars (once this is adopted in the EU). The 'black box' system will not allow the car to be started until the breathalyser has been used.
 
I reached out to a contact I have at the IVA technical team and asked what his thoughts were and if he was aware of reviews.

I am personally not aware of any Government review of any IVA scheme and/or intentions to draw it to a close.



Indeed, many other EU countries also have their own IVA schemes, and all cater for a wide range of vehicles, notjust cars.



However, that is not to say that it can’t happen – but it is unlikely that we would know any sooner than anyone else. You may be better enquiring directly to DfT, as it is they who would be responsible for any review.

Hi everyone ....... virtually a year has passed since any of us have added to this thread so it's time for a few words. Having been round the loop with the usual people, surprise, surprise no one has had a single word from official sources. We now have 3 years and 6 months to go before 2030 arrives and the political landscape is getting even more confusing. Currently there appears to be lots of talk (probably fanned by the media) regarding attempting to reverse Brexit or at least align more with EU regulation. In the meantime the EU is planning even further electronic crap being mandatory in new vehicles.
To my surprise the UK kit car manufacturers still believe there will be some form of 'Low Volume Manufacture' exemption, despite there not even being the beginnings of any discussion, consultation or communication. With such a short time period remaining I can't believe they are acting so naively. It appears they are frightened (which I understand) from asking any questions. They hope that the likes of Aston Martin, McLaren, etc will seek a resolution that results in some form of 'Low Volume' situation and that the kit car producers will be able to ride on the back of this.
To be blunt ...... everyone is rushing towards the cliff edge hoping it will turn out OK. I appreciate the wishful thinking BUT that's not a good business proposition.
I look forward to the day I can hopefully announce some positive information but currently all I hear is silence.
As usual, If you hear of any factual input please share it. In the meantime, if you are mid-build, then I urge you to get your car through IVA as soon as possible (as some people on the build threads are now doing).

I love it when they say zero emissions, because they are not. The emissions it takes to build the cars, batteries ect.... let alone you cant really recycle anything on the car. makes zero sense to me, its just moving the emissions from one column to another.
