The original painting process which we are following is quite complex.
First you sand the body and coat it in a very volitile etching primer which is green. Next you must seal this layer as it will attack anything it touches. A rust colored sealing primer goes on. Next you assemble the car with klicos and for the first time you can get a feeling about the body as it now in one shade. Sand and pound. Then comes base coat Red. Sand again. Then filling primer grey. Sand. Then two coats of final color, rubbing and buffing between and after coats, on panels you won't be able to get to after final riveting and under where rivets will go. Final rivet(what we're doing now) Then final two coats. Rub and buff.

And just imagine, they would have to go through that whole processes in one night if they'd damamged the body during qualifying the day before the big race. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Which leads me to wonder what's the difference between the Ferrari process and the original painting process for the MkIV? Seems like Ford treated their cars more as disposable items and so may not have gone to quite as much trouble when painting them...
