I haven't driven a GT yet so I guess I should keep my opinion to myself. But I feel that way about all the modern cars. To me a sports car should be a completely physical experience. I know most people don't like that but when I step out of a car exhausted from just driving I am a happy camper.

I have had chances to drive the GT but I just haven't pushed the issue. If it presents itself again I will try to get behind the wheel.

I often drive down to the South of France in nice weather and have done that in a variety of 'sports cars' - Astons, the GT, that type of thing. I wouldn't want to feel physically exhausted after a few miles - exhilerated perhaps. The GT is a good compromise - but it is a compromise as it's not a track car... I have a DBR2 for the track, you'd like that as you get out a total wreck after a session at Goodwood!

Try to get a drive in the GT if you get the chance - it's more fun to drive than some here might imagine.

Now that's a very tough question. Both cars have individual personalities and should be viewed for what they are. Both excellent in what they represent. Different yes, but not one better than the other. I'm lucky enough to own a GT (Gulf, of course) and soon will take delivery of a CAV GT40. A little seat time in the '40' will soon tell me the difference - and I'm curious to see for myself.

I can say this though, I have never owned a car like the GT. It is simply magic and a culmination of some incredible enthusiasm and engineering genius. Power, torque, handling, suspension, even gas milage...21 mpg avg on a high speed 920 mile trip recently. (1 day) :) It really is quite a 'simple' car - uncluttered by gizmo's or high tech stuff, but it executes flawlessly. My old and new Porsche’s pale by comparison.

Yes, I would. The next day, I would place an order for a monocoque or space frame most often recommended on this forum along with other basic parts so I could build a 40 with my hands in my own garage. I would find a tech manual for the Ford GT and learn from it what might be applied to the 40. I would also place an order for a new 40 from Superformance and when it came in, sell the Ford GT for 150K. At the end of all that, I would get two 40s for the price of one. One for me, and one for my sons to drive on the track.
