RCR40 Steering Column

I'm looking for some help on how the RCR40 Steering Column assembles. I've searched the Forum, but don't see where anyone addresses this item specifically. I have some of it figured out as shown in the attached picture. I also know that I have to cut some of these pieces, and that's where I come to the Forum experts before I make a mistake. If this is supposed to be a collapsible column, where do I cut/join the solid shaft & the outer shaft? A rough sketch of the assembly (if someone has one) would be really nice.

Bryan, many thanks for the help. Like they say, "A picture is worth a thousand words". These are really helpful and I think I can now forge ahead with confidence.

I think I got somewhere between 3- 4" of collapse on mine. But I didn't run my shaft(s) the same as Bryan did. My column runs straight through to the steering gear, splitting the clutch & brake pedals, with a dbl u-joint at the gear. Of course, it is cut in the middle to allow for the sleeve and subsequent ability to collapse.

I had to recut mine too, but I considered that the steering wheel was soo far away from my body that I did not care about the collapse faculty and I weld everything to lower down any play.
