EDITORIAL-these ‘kit” cars, hate that term, are t all cars kit cars? anyway, this is my fifth; 1 Unique Roadster/Gadsden, AL, 2 Factory 5 Daytonas, one other GT40 competition by a company that built 6 cars then went out of business; took 6.5 years to,complete.
All there cars assembled by others come with significant build issues that need to be corrected by the next owner. My last FF Daytona was built by by a friend who was an Air Force pilot and a commercial airline captain, retired. He had over $100K in receipts for the build including upgraded suspension, rear hatch, brakes etc. He had to convert from fuel injection back to carb after major early running issues. We found the engine pan had no gasket. built up silicone was used, the a/c sensor was placed in a duct, not where it was supposed to be. Issues included my present presents RCR car, which are being corrected over. The soon 2 years of ownership. This includes a Ford crate engine that was found to have a crank bearing reversed upon delivery and installation! Ford did take the engine back and corrected the issue, supplied g us with a create to ship it back to/from, under warranty. But this required all of the engine accessories to be removed down to,the bare short block before returning it to Ford and reassembling these items when the engine was received back. In addition to the above items, we have had to do the. following;
Upgrades/improvements
Reversed center wheel locks/were found to be on the wrong side
Should tighten themselves as traveling forward-when reversed as found, LOOSENS as vehicle travels forward. Not how wheel locks were designed.
Repainting black metal,items
Polishing aluminium
New rear tires
New shift cables
New clutch
Headers wrapped/carb spacer added to correct vapor lock/fuel boiling
Pan bolt replacements
Proper gaskets
Ew exact fit water pump-$630 plus labor
New proper return alum radiator
Custom battery hold down fabricated for the battery and rerouted some of the positive and negative cables as needed into the battery box.
I am also trying to find a nice aluminum cleaner to help bring back some of this aluminum. Any ideas? Anything specific you like for the aluminum boats you have?
(I've also looked into ) rerouting the fuel system to help keep the fuel as cool as possible. I will keep you posted on that.
