Stoneleigh Show

Thanks for the sit in the car Ian, although I think I'd need the wooden blocks too!

Some pictures I took.

John and Brian.. I have always supported you, and was most disheartened again to hear your comments on this forum. I thought now I had left as chairman, the onslaught of abuse would stop. I always enjoyed Stoneleigh, but advocated for something different, as it was getting a bit stale in my view, with the same old nuts & bolts stalls etc. You cannot understand how upset I feel at your comments and am most surprised it has come from you John. I have owned two GTDs and two KVA's and would have another, so your comments are most unwelcome, unpleasant and incorrect.. Andrew

I am afraid the following comments from John Oxborough, backed up by Brian Magee on page 1 of the Stoneleigh Show thread "kit built cars should not be looked down upon by some folk who having found a few
"ORIGINAL" parts, constructed a "ORIGINAL FAKE" and then consider a kitcar show beneath the clubsactivities ," is the final straw and I cannot bring myself to describe the progress of my car any more on this forum. I apologise to the vast majority of people who have expressed great interest, but the open comments of the minority have caused me much pain and heartache. Even though I have been blind-disabled since 1986, I gave 101% to the club as a volunteer. I showed the same dedication and patience to this forum and genuinely thought lovers of the GT40 marque would enjoy hearing about my car. I shall re-iterate for the last time, that I have never said my car is the original GT40 "GT40P/1042". I had hoped others would speak up on my behalf, but alas I am alone. Well, perhaps not quite alone and I will leave you with a copy of an email message from Ronnie Spain received in 2012: "Hello Andrew,
Your forum posting is absolutely fine with me. No disagreement at all about any of
what you said.
Thanks for the links to the 1967 Le Mans videos. I'll find time somehow to watch
them.
All the best,
Ronnie"

Sorry about this Andrew -please reconsider. The majority (by a long long way) would wish it, and you've come too far to quit us now.

Hi Andrew. Anyone who has bothered to read your many and comprehensive postings on your project will know that you have never claimed that the car will be an original when finished. I would join Keith in urging you to continue posting details of the build, which I am sure is of great interest to GT40 enthusiasts around the world and just ignore the criticism from a tiny minority.

Chris

Hi Andrew

I'm with Keith and Chris.

It's been a mission at times sourcing parts for my car, and I have the option of choosing anything that fits (or can be made to fit) and does the job; to attempt to build a car sourced purely from authentic parts must be melting your brain, so please keep up the posts.

We all know that yours will never be an 'original' car, but it will be a testament to your commitment to do something that most of us would never dare undertake.

I look forward to seeing the finished car!

Cheers

Darren

Further to Andrew's posts on this thread, my post related to the position that the club appeared to be taking regarding Stoneleigh Show. To quote from Chairman's Chat in Fortification Issue 94 "there is quite a strong consensus that we shouldn't attend Stoneleigh any more because we no longer want to associate GT40s with kit cars - they are now so specialised and let's fact it so expensive".

It seems to me that this stated view has directed club policy for this year, hence the show was not listed and advertised. Membership this year is at an all time low and I feel that with this attitude it is not surprising.

The club is happy to take revenue from traders advertising GT40 kit cars and services and yet the view was expressed in the club magazine that it doesn't want to be associated with this type of car. Members who have purchased these kits and components are looking for support in their endeavours and I wonder how paying advertisers and kit car builders feel when they read comments like this?

There are a number of cars completed and in build using some 'original' parts but my view is that ownership of such a car should not be licence to consider cars built from kits being inferior as I feel was implied in the above article.

To be absolutely clear my post was about Stoneleigh and the club's apparent attitude to the show. It is my opinion - I expressed it without swearing and using insulting language. I note that this issue has spilled on to other threads and I am disappointed to see the tone and language used in some posts. I request that the moderators consider removing these offensive posts and also that the rules regarding real name identities are enforced.

As well as supporting the Stoneleigh Show on the Sunday, I supported the club at the Donington event on the same weekend.

I wish Andrew well with his build; perhaps he will change his mind and continue with the build log.

Hi John... Fortification 94 was a long time ago and did not have any bearance on the AGM venue for 2014. I did not have anything to do with it's venue and wasn't aware until recently, that it was to be held at theGaydon Museum. Also, my comments about kit cars were regarding placing our GT40 replicas next to lesser kit-built cars at the Stoneleigh Show. All GT40s are magnificent, but whether they be a KVA, GTD, Tornado, ERA, CAV, Superformance etc, they are all now miles better built and far, far better looking than some of the horrors on display at Stoneleigh. I'd rather say our Tornados, for example, were replicas, rather than kit cars. Your comment about some people, having found some old parts... was directed at me and very hurtful. You have no bl**dy idea how difficult it's been to get my GT40 together, whether you count in my disability or not. I understand why your upset, you may lose business due to your unguarded comments and now you are trying to fix the problem. As a professional lawyer, I try to think carefully, before I put words onto the internet.. please bear this in mind. I hope your customers forgive you as much as I do... Best wishes.. Andrew
