Superformance rolling chassis cost

No idea yet Lee when I get my chasis number, thought I would find out Tuesday, sales rep for some odd reason could not tell me, his reply when I asked was, "That's a good question" then he never indicated if he was going to find out. This sales process up to this point at least where I am working through has been odd in my opinion and I will just leave it a that. I did find out that there is some flexability in that start date so I had them bump it to February vs January. I already spent enough money this year that I wanted to defer some taxes until 2026. By bumping to February I don't have to come up with my first half payment till after the first of the year.
"Who" does the install is a major question, not just from the quality point but also from a legal registration concern. Federal regulations require a "self-build" to be done by the owner OR the powertrain to be done by a "third party". Legally a "third party" must be an "arm's length" entity. There are some chassis dealers who have affiliated businesses do the install. One such dealer has a brother who does the builds, another has a series of dealership brands he owns and does the install at one of those stores. Neither meets the "intent" of the law. We have seen California refuse to register a car after they did a simple web search and discovered the "seller and installer" had common ownership.

Just something to be aware of. This may not be the case for your chassis but be informed and take no chances.

Appreciate the heads up as this type of purchase is my first and I am finding out issues, concerns, processes and things to consider as I go along being its not a pure factory titled car. Its been hard to get straight answers from the dealer on just about every question I ask, just met with vague responses and I can't figure out why, only guess as to why I think this is happening. Heck I can't even get a straight answer out of Superformance when I asked a simple question about rim sizing in the advent I wanted to go with after market rims. In Superformance's email back to me they refered me to contact either Downforce as they have experiance with aftermarket rims or contact Forgeline directly as they are familar with their chassis, damdest response. You mean to tell me you don't know how to size rims on our own cars? Its enough that if I already had not had not had money down on the car I probably would have walked away from this whole thing and rethought my process on a sports car honestly.

Superformance is not in the car customizing business. Their cars have been designed and engineered for the specs they produce under. Your question to them about aftermarket wheels will go unanswered just like if you asked FORD what rims would fit on their Mustang. Dealers, Installers, and customizes then take the product and modify it for an owner's individual tastes such as after market wheels. I recommend you spend time with the shop that is actually going to "finish" your car (meaning select and install the drivetrain), shake it down and present it to you as a vehicle you can then take and get registered by your State DMV. That shop may or may not be able to suggest custom changes to the wheels for instance. Downforce is one such shop that has spec'd aftermarket wheels. Good luck with this as it is far from the norm of buying a "car".

When you say "Superformance" are you referring to the dealer or Superformance LLC, the distributor? And to clarify my earlier post about installers and legalities, in the California issue it was NOT a Superformance product but rather another manufacturer.

My offer to talk to you about your order and options stands. I have no skin in the game as I no longer a dealer and can't sell you anything save for a few upgrade parts.

Anyone know what the current cost on a Superformance rolling chassis is? How have tariffs on SA affected cost?
No I'm not in the market to purchase one. Just wondered how that might affect used SPF prices.
We're the oldest, authorized Shelby and Superformance dealer in the world (see letter below). You can expect to pay around $200K for a MK 1 roller, depending on options. To mitigate tariffs, more components from US companies are now included instead of using those from South African suppliers. Instead of installing them at the factory, they are shipped to dealers for installation. If you would like a current build sheet, please call or email: [email protected] - 817-247-1981. Mark Logan

In the case of California refusing to register a car under SB100, there's a fix. Title and register the car in Montana under an LLC, then sell it to yourself in California using the Montana title.

The "Montana" trick is not flying in some states. Some are not taking the Montana title at face value and requiring that the car be inspected and sometimes required to go through the new state's registration process. States know they are missing LARGE sums of taxes, when more Ferraris are registered in Montana annually than California, that is a clue. Georgia had a massive crackdown on Montana plates running around on cars that were sold new in Atlanta. Fines and taxes for the owners. If you want to go this route, do your homework and be prepared to pay the tax possibly.

Hey, buddy!
Did you manage to find a Gelscoe for $330k?

Regards
Édouard

I originally wanted a tool room car, but I could not get a firm price. They kept telling me to add 10% depending on the year, but to expect $300K-$330K for the roller. That's when I pulled the trigger on the Gelscoe.

What s/n were you assigned? I am 2514. December 2024 build.
O.K. Lee it took me forever to get my chassis number, but I was sent an email today saying my car is first on the docket for production in February and my chassis number is 2533. Part of the delay on the number was I found out that there is some leeway in production scheduling, and I asked them to bump the date out to February rather than January so I could bump out my payment to 2026 for tax purposes, otherwise I was going to have to make a payment in December.

Wow what a story this has been. Glad I made my purchase and paid state taxes and building my self with lots of pictures documenting. Mark you are learning important info as we all are thanks to this forum. Good luck with your build as I know it takes hard earned money and the info shared should help steer you in the right direction.
