I use Firewire wherever I can; when I have an old video on tape I'll either burn it to the digital camcorder or run it through a converter hooked to the computer. Perhaps Bill was saying the way the camera records isn't a big deal as long as you can convert the final output to the format where you live. (I guess I could take my Sony digital camcorder to Europe, shoot a bunch of video, come home, burn a DVD and send it back to a friend in Europe who could then play it. That sounds feasible.)
Isn't DVD the same worldwide? I know where I can get NTSC converted to PAL but it costs more than simple VHS to Digital 8 or Beta.
