It is a P68(F3L), which had a short and undistinguished career
after Ford gave up the GT40 factory effort(1968-1969).

The following images of the Ford P68 are from the 2002 Oldtimer Grand Prix at the Nurburgring. Although not 1960s images, there are still some cool pics of the P68 and Lola Chevrolet head to head as well as an engine shot of the P68. There are also a few pics of a Gulf GT40 on the 2001 Oldtimer GP link.

Although the P68 was not successful, I remember standing next to one and admiring the lines when I was just 10 years old. They were quite something close up. It would make an unusual replica.

It looks like a Volkswagon replicar of a Mark II.

No, that is one of the spyders (open-top roadsters) (GT108, 109, 111, or 112) due to the engine scoop openings. It must be later in life since it has the later style "Le Mans" nose and what must be a makeshift top for the rain. Interesting for sure.

It is a Mk1 roadster, fitted with a roof section for

running in the wet. Unique photo! Neat!

 

Hi (again)

This was Peter Sutcliffe's second GT40 chassis 112, the last of the original chassis, racing at Spa in late 1967. It was originally built to Roadster GT-X1 spec (like the other photo you highlighted from Sebring in 1966). For 1967, the plastic roof was added. The press called it the "Ford P40" - it was rebuilt for 1968 with standard GT40 bodywork.

Sorry, but I've got a feeling I'm taking over this thread. However, there's another not very well known website that deserves a mention - it must have taken some putting together and it recounts the history of the 1966 season, including the background to the season and the GT40's victory at the 1966 Le Mans. The story, which runs to 6 vast webpages, deserves some time. It gives the background and a round by round review of the racing, the drivers, the cars and the results. There's a real mix of images, including a lot of pics of the competition (not just the Ferraris, but the Porsches/Chapparal/Alpines/Alfas etc). The pages take an age to download but they're worth it and there's a lot of text to read while you're waiting. For history buffs there may be nothing new but it gives a great flavour of the times, and some. Hit the links at the top/bottom of the pages to move through the season. Enjoy...
