Five lights, four lights, three lights, two lights, one light, and they're off..............

I did. Trying to understand the message. The founding fathers who owned slaves were actually anti-slavery?

The discussion on the "3/4 rule" is pretty funny. The NORTHERN colonies didn't want to count slaves at ALL. ZERO. The SOUTHERN colonies wanted to count them so that they had better representation in the House even though those slaves couldn't vote or run for the House.

Pretty disappointing that this is taught as "history" of any kind.

P.S. Slavery remained legal until after the Civil War and huge part of our economy and southern institutions until then. Just thought I'd remind you of that.

Bob, let me put this straight. To start a thread by calling someone names is in my view ,---- NOT ON .

In future I will think twice before reading any of your threads / posts.

All these cute comments, signifying nothing. BTW (that's "by the way" for the dolts here) out of the last fifty links I've pasted on posts here, if there are more than two, I'd be shocked.

Lets hear some substance out of you, Mark. So far you sound like you've tilted back a few too many.

That video has the events of American history completely wrong. When Thomas Jefferson said that all men were created equal he was not talking about equality between slaves and citizens. He was, in fact, talking about how the English were using their colonies to make money at the expense of the people living in the colonies. For all of the history of the colonies in the Americas, the colonial residents thought of themselves as English, however, especially by the 1760's they were being exploited by the king and the English government. The founding fathers were angry they had to buy English goods (at exorbitant prices) and had extra taxes posed on them which the common English citizen did not pay.
Remember it was the decree "no taxation without representation" that eventually got us into the war of independence.
The revolutionary war was a war started because of economics (not human equality), as England (in the views of the founding fathers) unfairly exploited its colonies. It was a war to gain America's economic freedom from England. It was not about finding freedom for the common man, but more about giving (especially the rich) people in America their freedom from their colonial master.
The other problem with that argument is that Thomas Jefferson and the founding fathers is that they didn't even look at slaves as people. They were chattel, consumer goods, items to be bought and sold. As sad as it is to admit, they were slave owners and had no plans of devising otherwise. There was no thought ever about considering slaves as equals. Unfortunately "all men are created equal" had nothing to do with abolition, and everything to do with helping the founding fathers avoid paying their riches to England.

This is a new tactic from the nutjobs. A complete rewrite of American history and then sold to rubes who didn't get it in school the first time around.

Wilson and the Progressive movement in the US as the precursors to fascism.

Hitler and the Nazis as some weird branch of "liberalism."

Our Constitution, it's history and meaning according to only one small group of founders, and completely ignoring the Federalists.

JFK would be a Republican today.

The economic boom of the 90s was "all because of President Bush (I)."

And now, the Founding Fathers weren't racists who owned slaves.

Yay. Go back to school Bob.

My only comment on the video is Frantz talks about how (and its his point of view) the founding fathers realized that slavery was wrong, and took measures to stop it at the risk of huge personal expense.

Mark, I respectfully disagree...LB's head is NOT underwater, it's up a place where the sun don't shine, and his brain is NOT full of Bull shit, it's his own, due to the location in which he has placed his head.

Hard to imagine a more offensive troll, though.

Cheers, Mark, (and JEERS, LB) from Doug!!

I personally want to thank Bob, for giving me a daily opportunity to have a rant at him. Stress relief like he provides would cost a fortune from a health care specialist. And it's also way cheaper than a Hooker.

The major point of that video is that before America, slavery was a normal, ingrained part of society. The declaration that all men are created equally by God opened up the road to freedom for all. Something as ingrained as slavery cannot be changed over night,, but the impetus for it was started by these men who put those words to paper and immortality.
