trans axle advice wanted

Hi guys, my little toy currently has a WRX subi engine and trans installed, but i am contemplating replacing the boxer with a VQ all alloy Nissan 3 ltr engine, but there would be an issue with the trans input shaft on the WRX box being so high above the output shafts, the engine would wind up sitting fairly high in the frame.
without resorting to sellin both arms, one leg and a kidney for a ZF, Hewland or porche box, what are the thoughts pitfalls etc of either the Renault or Audi boxes, and which one would you reccomend i search for.
any help and advice much appreciated
John

There is a porsche 914 or 915 box on T/Me at moment for NZ $750.00 I think. Not sure that it would be up to your Nissan in strength terms though.

Hey John,
Have a look at the Audi 01E six speed. I have one with a quaife diff in my RF134 with 12" wide simi slick tyres and 580hp motor. The motor is a 4.6L quad cam turbo Mustang Cobra motor running at 5psi. I've done 1500km and no probs. These km's include dyno sessions and a some hard driving. The box feels storng. I know that these boxes get some flack on their stregth, but I'll guess we'll find out soon when the motor is run in and boost is taken to 22psi plus.

Well I can't see that on Trade-Me but I'm sure a 915 trans would be up to the job. A bit low geared for a V8 but probably fine for a high revving six. The bad press with the Audi is for the 5 speed, I believe guys that have changed out to the six speed have cured their problems. In saying that, torque is the trans killer and a 3 litre Nissan shouldn't pose a problem for either of the Audi or Porsche trans IMHO

Porsche 914 -Auction # 149071318 - closes Sunday, 13th @ 8;33 am.

Same guy I bought all my 906 donor bits from- good to deal with, should really have bought it myself for the Mk1 & got it in the same freight deal! But I think I would break it, & I hate doing rebuilds on my own gear, its even more demoralizing than having a clean out.

Mr Bobski,
I am interested in using a Audi 6 speed in my Magnum but I need some info. Could u tell me which one u have or which models will work. My problem is when I contact a yard that has one, they want to know what vehicle I will be putting it in. I explain to them that it will be going in a Kit Car, they still want model, series. Can you help me out?

Joz
