Engine block, how much and which one

Brett,
pre '75 is visible smoke only. '75 to '93 is basic emission check as per MOT standards for that period. Any properly built engine will sail through without a problem ( unless you try fitting 48 IDAs !)

Mike,
Luckily, I have a D1ZM block... even more luck, I work for Ford

Been a while since I chatted to you all those years ago at Detling. I did end up with some Patriot Performance heads though that you told me about :)

Sorry guys to shout me, me, me again but need to get some advice on this before the end of the weekend.

So C8FE race block, should I go for it or walk away?

Here's a link a thread concerning the details of the C8FE block on the Boss 302 discussion board. The Boss 302 block is generally favored over the 289/302 because of the 4 bolt mains. I seem to remember an issue with the water passages not matching up with 289/302/351 heads, so you might want to check that out.

If the C8FE block is good and the price is right then buy it. Give a good look over for cracks and damage and measure the bores to see if it is standard or already bored out. If it has already been bored out 30thou then I would think it was worth less than a standard bore block. On the originality thing, to some people it would be worth more but in reality it is just a big lump of iron and in the car they all look exactly the same and you have to grovel underneath to read the casting code. When my car was looked at by the "authorities" the inspector couldn't be bothered to even look at the engine casting number or the car chassis number as the ground was wet.
Cheers

Trevor,
I think you need to give everyone more information before you're going to get any worthwhile advice.
Are we talking about a block or a complete engine.
Exactly WHAT racing has this thing suposed to have done, did they ever fit Boss blocks in works GT40s if so how come you can't use them for FIA built cars.
Do you know anything about the condition, what oversize is it, does it need to go again, are there any liners fitted if so, why.
Is there any welding, cracking etc, does it look like it has ever been exploded.
Is it a stock Boss 302 that has been raced or a proper RACE Boss 302, O ringed deck etc, if so compatability/ availability of parts may be an issue.

And.........how much ?

Mike
