    G96 an Option?

Gosh, I must be confused. I own cars with both 016 and non-turbo, non-GT2/GT3 G96 transmissions and the shift systems are completely different - the G96 uses two arms and the 016 uses a push/turn shaft. Also, the G96 six-speeds are getting more and more expensive as they break on the...

    G96 an Option?

The research I have done so far on the G96 box shows them to be quite delicate. I actually have a 2000 911 Porsche and I missed a second-gear shift and now second gear needs to be replaced. The carrier bearing was already howling at about 65,000 miles. The 911 (996) Turbos had 420 HP in 2000...

    Audi 01E input shaft leak

Anyone have any ideas why my 01E transmission would leak at the front of the trans? The trans has just been rebuilt by Scotty and so the seal should be OK. The trans id tipped slightly down in front, maybe 4 degrees. There is nothing coming out the breather, so I don't think it's overfilled.

McLaren replica build base on a Manta

A tip on the windshield: a Mclaren M8D (not B) windshield will fit if you take out that ugly frame that goes over the top and trim to fit. Talk to Judy at Aircraft Windshield in Los Alamitos, CA. Luckily, I live within driving distance of them and they worked with me on the windshield. The...

Race series for Mclaren look new cars

I saw one of these in person and I must say that they are absolutely the real deal. There is no way anybody is making money selling these cars for $50K. I am not sure where the profit is - must be entry fees or something. The fabrication work, machining, and mechanical bits are all first...

    Interesting perspective...I agree...

Being luckily in southern California, I have had the opportunity to drive in some of these modern sports cars. I rode in a LP640 Lambo and asked the owner driver to get on it. He said "I am!". It was pretty boring. Same with the new Aston Martin and new Maserati. Give me a car with the...

    RCR's new car..962

Just a note of caution about the sound (and weight and size) of a twin-turbo MB motor. If you are using the MB motor for the sound, consider that the turbos absorb all the cool sounds and leave the dull sounds for the tailpipe. I think that is where the new McLaren missed the mark. Notice that...

Dynamic wing - what do you think?

Actually, I am most interested in your split wing. So if I'm reading the graph correctly, I can assume a total rear downforce of about 200 lbs, or about 100 lbs per corner at 100 MPH? And about 315 lbs total or about 157 lbs per corner at 125 MPH? If these assumptions are correct, they are...

Dynamic wing - what do you think?

Greg, thanks so much for the primer. I might be a player if I knew more about the actual downforce that was generated. I am sure you have those numbers from the $64,000.00 spent in the wind tunnel. I am not sure you would be giving away any secrets and people need to have the numbers to make...

Dynamic wing - what do you think?

Ironically, the GT40 was way ahead of its time with aero devices, especially the Mark IV. Notice the nose openings and the hood deflectors: those weren't for airflow to the radiators, they were for downforce. Also the shape of the rear quarter panels, the spoiler side extensions, the spoiler...

Dynamic wing - what do you think?

All right Howard! It is not that clear to me, but from their web site, it looks like it is computerized with input from a g-force sensor (like in a WII game) as well as speed. That makes the most sense to me. For example, let's say you had the "trigger" set at .5 lateral g's, then anytime...

Dynamic wing - what do you think?

It is indeed unfortunate that many, if not most people dismiss anything new before really understanding how it works. Believe it or not, Edison Company in the 30's had to go around to the farmers and "sell" electricity. The farmers said that they were fine with lantern oil and wood-burning...

Dynamic wing - what do you think?

Ian Clark: very thoughtful post. My thoughts on the consensus are that this type of technology is not for everyone, especially organized racing participants. Jim Hall, Smokey Yunick, Bruce McClaren, Andy Granatelli, Porsche (the 917 active-wing experiment), Mercedes (the air brake on the...
