cork or rubber for tank seal

wondering what is better, a rubber or cork seal for the fuel tank blanking plate? and how thick?
thanks, Rick

Nitrile rubber is designed to withstand fuels and oils, I believe the cork seals for the same application you can buy are nitrile coated.

The thicker the plate/tank material the thinner the gasket can be as there will be less deformation. But 1mm / 40thou should be a minimum

viton is the best material but a bit more expensive - typically 1mm thick for a gasket and can be bonded to the cover plate to ensure a perfect seal on one side of the plate - don't forget seals under the bolt heads if the fixing holes in the tank are through holes and not blind captive nuts - petrol will find every possible leak and vapour path !

My Fuel Tank Sending units (not installed yet) came with cork gaskets.

PAB: What did you use to bond the viton to the cover plate?

Fred/Belgium: What kind of sealer, if any, did you use on the cork?
