    Lucas headlights beam pattern

Hi Tom, Good luck for your IVA, I had a similar problem, in the end drove it, (that was great fun), to a local MOT Garage and had it tested on their headlight machine, it passed without any problems. Don.

    Success!!!!

Hi Steve, I am using a 2004 Mustang 4.6 with injectors, my problem was using an ECU that will run my engine, but was designed to run a four banger. So it’s compromised in that it double fires the injectors and plugs, and this makes it a problem getting through the test. The Examiner was kind to...

    Success!!!!

Hi Shaun, No it was not just the engine bay, I had to do the front in the convoluted piping as well, very hot on the connections coming out of the front chassis and going into the front deck. All plugs secured with no rubbing when the deck opens and closes. Don.

    Success!!!!

My problem was not the top of the arch, but from just over half way to the back running down to the bottom that it needed to cover the tyre that was standing proud. I found them very anal at the test centre, and it’s my way or the highway!!!!

    Success!!!!

Hi Shaun, make sure your steering wheel is padded right to the end of the arms where they meet the wheel, with no holes showing. They also wanted all my wiring covered in the plastic convoluted pipe so there is no chance of rubbing or damage from heat. I also failed due to the wheels sticking...

    Southerngt

What can I say, Mick has been very helpful from building a chassis to fit my engine, then at the end of a phone to give support or information to get me to the next level. Carol is also very welcoming any time I have been to their unit with coffee and biscuits. Enjoy retirement, but nice to hear...

AVOID HCF - I paid them $1200 for a synchro 5 MONTHS ago. They have not delivered and will not refund me. Threatened me with their lawyer.

I had a problem with a supplier in Canada, I sent the money and he sent a part that was never going to work. After bombarding him with emails and getting nowhere, I got in touch with Canadian Trading Standards, (there must be something similar in America). They went and had a chat pointing out...

    '40 Front/Rear clip locaters

I have used these, they are a cheaper alternative but do the trick, you just need a aluminium plate on the top deck for them to locate into. Don. https://www.kitcardirect.co.uk/aluminium-bonnet-m6-alignment-locator-pins-pair.html

    Pipe Flaring Kit

Hi Guys, Had a fail at my IVA Test on one of my brake pipes, I had managed to twist it just at the join with the flex pipe. Rather than replace the complete pipe, (pain). I looked for a handheld unit that would allow me to just replace the last two feet. Found the Blackline Pipe Flarer on...

    Brakes

Thanks guys for you answers, it looked good, but I would hate to be tearing down a big hill and go for the brakes and the system blows out. I will look at Eddie’s system going forward, great having the forum to bounce things from. Don.

    Brakes

Hi, Had a fail at the IVA test due to a twisted brake pipe. Rather than take the car apart to replace the complete pipe, I found this on the net. It’s very similar to a compression unit you would use for water, only designed for brake pipes, has anybody used these, are the safe/any good? Cheers.

    What Pressure Radiator Cap?

Hi Ian, Mick at Southern GT says that you should not need to go over a 15lb pressure cap on the radiator. I was loosing water once the engine was up to temperature, I thought I would get a stronger cap, but Mick said raise the header tank, and it did the trick. I also have reduced the amount of...

    Running in oil

Hi, I have just read the latest edition of the Fortification Magazine, inside is a very interesting article about the quality of various oils. This highlighted that you need a bit of close contact in the engine to get everything to bed in. So for this you need an oil with a high content on...

    Southern GT #28

Hi Hamish, I am the other guy building a Southern GT in Yorkshire, and I am based in York. Pleased to see you if you want a look once we are out of lockdown. Drop me a note sometime, I am almost ready to go to IVA, but things are in flux at present as it looks as thought the test centres are...

    Picture Request: Fuel Pump Arrangement

Hi Andrew, Attached is picture of my set up, these are two Mitsuba pumps, they load the swirl tank depending which side you are using, then the high pressure pump pulls to to the injectors via a filter. Any return goes back to the swirl tank and then depending what solenoid is open to the tank...
