17" wheel road racing tires

Hey Everyone!

Looking for some tips on a good road racing tire for my 17" BRMs. for the fronts its easy... having trouble with the rear. Currently I have picked out some Toyo R1Rs that are 275 wide. The rear wheels are 10" wide. My car will have 2" flares, so I think I can fit 315s. Trouble is that most tires I am finding for 17" wheels and 315 width recommend a wheel width of 10.5-11.5 inches... Any thoughts? I would love to hear from anyone running tires larger than 275 on the rears with 17" wheels.

So you fit the 315 on a 10" wide wheel?

315 is fairly big for a 10” in my eyes. Depends heavily on the profile though.
I ran 285/30 on 10.5J 18” and they were flush.

I’m planning to run 295/50’s on 11’s or 12’s for the ‘40

Yea that makes sense. That would explain why most tire manufacturers are recommending no smaller than 10.5" wide wheels for 315 tires. Maybe I'll push the 275 to 295...
