Anyone with a 351w in a GT40? If so what kind of oil pan are you using? Any concerns with hanging too low?

I have a standard depth pan, and while low, haven't experienced any problems. I am VERY
careful to avoid speed bumps! The suspension on my car is stiff enough that "normal" driving shouldn't cause the pan to bottom out
in typical road situations.

Lloyd, the first question that comes to my mind is what kind of transmission do you have? Is it inverted? These two will have a great deal to do with where the oil pan is. For those using Renault or Audi(Getrag) boxes that cannot be inverted, the issue is less critical since the engine sits a bit higher. For those using inverted ZF/RBT or Porsche(ZF) transaxles it is a bit more critical. If you fall into the latter catagory, you might want to think about a GT40 style pan. There are several vendors out there who have these. They range from big name, big $$ to less expensive. I went with an Armando's Oil Pans http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Flats/1624/race.html I found his name on the Norther California Shelby club website. His prices have gone up a little since I bought mine, but they are still significantly less that ones like Aviaid and others. I don't see a 351 listed in the GT40 replica catagory, but I would be dollars to donuts that Armando would make you one. The 289/302 pans are now $420, but boy are they nice with sump, built in scrapers, windage tray and a 4 trap door central sump area:

I don't know why this is happening, but if you get a broken link icon, right click on it and select view image and it will load??????
This is a cobra pan with only two trap doors, but my GT40 pan has a trap door on each side just like the two you can see here.

I just ordered one from him for a 351W with extra 1/2" ports for temperature sensors. We will see how it turns out.

Lynn,
What did you do for a dip stick. I need to use the 1/2" NPT port because I understand the DART block does not have a place for the standard dip stick.

Thanks
Gary

Using inverted ZF/2 trans ERA calls for an aviad pan for a 302 and give a part# depth 7.25 inches. 351w pan is 7.5 inches i'm not sure what a .25 inch difference is going to make? looking for someone who has been down this path for a little guidance

I'm using a Canton road race pan, t style. It has scrapers, trap door, and baffles along with a dip stick bung and ports for senders. 8" deep, not expensive at $200. 9 quarts, also available for 351s.

Haven't put the engine in yet but I don't think so. The only problem I'm told from Hershal is getting the engine in the car - seems they don't go in with the pan on due to some bracing in the rear. PITA!

Cannon makes two different roadrace front sump oilpans. Both are the type that are made from a stock pan and then after the bottom is cut off a box is welded on in its place. They come with baffels and can be ordered with a matching pump pickup tube. I have the 7 qt one one my GTD/R21 transaxle and the bottom is 1 inch ABOVE the bottom of the engine cradle. I believe the 9qt model is about 1 inch deeper and a little wider. Neither pan extends forward more that a stock Ford front sump pan. They also have a cool windage tray.

7qt 225.95 USD
9qt 289.95 USD
pickup tube 47.95 USD (15% off when ordered with pan)
windage tray 55.95 USD
bolt set for windage tray 55.95 USD (15% off when ordered with windage tray.

This is good stuff and is are real race parts. (9qt with windage tray0
