<TABLE cellSpacing=1 cellPadding=4 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD class=alt1 vAlign=top align=left width="10%"></TD><TD class=alt1 align=left>This matching set of four GT-40 wheels are from my uncle's estate. They have been in the attic for over 35 years. I was told by a local custom wheel specialist they are aluminum, have been coated with a preservative and should polish up well. Wheels appear true. Casting reads "GT-40 8.000X15". Inside of one wheel marked with grease pencil "Bare wheel 17 1/2 Lbs, Wheel & Hub With Knock Off Spinners 25 Lbs". Wheels only at this point. E mail me [email protected], with any questions. Best offer.

I would expect 'vintage' wheels to be magnesium, not aluminum (or, were the original wheels made with magnesium centers mated to aluminum rims? Experts here should know the answer to that). Do they have any Halibrand markings? (I would expect genuine Halibrand wheels to be identified as such somewhere, but again, the experts should chime on on that shortly).

I find it curious that you apparently have four, 8x15 wheels, when originally the rear wheels would have been wider, i.e. 10x15 or thereabouts. Can you confirm that all four of your wheels are the same, 8x15?

Does anybody know if somebody was making replica GT40 wheels 35 years ago? If these are indeed all aluminum, I would presume they are replicas, rather than genuine Halibrands.

I still like 'em though! :)

I'm no expert but the pic certainly looks like an original front wheel for a GT40. Definitely not the rear wheel.

I believe there should be a halibrand marking on the wheel however - perhaps there's too much oxidation/dust on them presently to identify this.

Anybody have any data points on what an original halibrand (front or rear) goes for?

Thanks!

Interesting !

These in Aluminum at 17 1/2 lb's bare,
are over 5 lb's each more than my 15x10 Halibrands in Magnesium.
