48 IDA throttle cable movement amount

Hi,

Roughly how much movement should there be of the end of the throttle cable from idle to throttle fully open.

Thanks

Nick, it's variable due to the linkage design. The important thing to make sure your cable stops when the butterflies are full open. If you do not put a "stop" on your pedal then too much pressure against full open can bend the butterfly shaft, then you have real problems.

Thanks Tim,

It's just at the moment I have about 25mm of cable travel (engine not in) just wondering it this is enough.

Nick, not sure if 25mm is enough. Again, variables depend on the bell crank at the carb linkage and location where the cable attaches to the pedal. You're gonna have to wait until motor install to see the final result.

25mm seems pretty tight. Typical set-ups I've seen are between 35-60mm. With the proper linkage it could work, but you'd want to have that translate to full pedal movement. Which then implies that the cable is the restriction, and not the pedal movement. If so, can you trim back on the housing to allow more cable movement?

Hi Terry,

Thanks for the info but it's not the cable I have the pedal box really close to the bulkhead so that is restricting the movement. May have to move it forward a bit.

I agree with Terry, 25mm seems short. Keep in mind, you need some adjustability to allow modulation of the throttle. Even if a short "throw" gets you from closed to full open you may find the throttle pedal to sensitive to minor movement. But hey, at least you have a pedal stop!
