A question you will rarely hear about a GT40 !

I was thinking about the famous, "Is it real"?, question that all the replica and real cobra owners get. I really don't think too many people will ask that about a GT40 replica. Maybe some of the guys that already have theirs on the street could tell us what most people ask. I bet it will be more like, Hey!, what kind of car is that"?.

When we were at Knotts with the blue car at the hotel people asked if it was a new Ford prototype! You should have seen the looks on faces when Robert Logan told them that the design was from the early sixties!

Here in the UK It's a question that we often get asked at shows and exhibitions, to which the usual reply is 'Do I look like a milionaire'. Great forum let's hope other UK members get involved.

And always maintained links to that site. But those folks have never acknowledged that we exist on this side of the pond (US that is). Spread the news around, we can all only benefit from more of us sharing in our GT40 experiences.

The only one I ever get feedback from in the UK is Andrew Sheldon, the fellow who runs Tornado. Thanks for the help Andrew.

Hi Perry,
I am really glad to see someone from the UK on this board. I think there is a keen interest in GT40's over there. You guys have been onto these cars longer than we have so I think we will be able to learn aplenty from the enthusiats there.
I also have a cobra and I do vist the Cobra Club forum at times. I mostly just lurk and learn.
I'm sure the word will get out and soon this board will be very busy.

Actually, it isn't that common for young folks to know what a Cobra is! Many folks associate the name with mustangs.

Have had to explain things to a great many people. Am usually then asked if the Cobra is an original ... to which I reply that it is a "modern recreation of the 1960's design."

Bet there are fewer folks who recognize the GT40 when it gets to the street.

I have been to many "car shows"(upwards of 50+) and that questions comes up a lot. As many will ask what it is? Mine was on display at the Atlanta International Auto Show for two years in a row(won't be any more as a change in management). I think this is a better sampling of the public as this genre of people are there to check out the newest model of what they are driving or want to drive. Our cars that were on display drew larger crowds than a lot of the new cars. Just watching and observing the crowds. Most were heard asking what kind of car was it, even with a display placard in front of the car. They were as interested in the engine bay as they were in the car itself. A fair number in the crowds actually knew what the car was and from them they wanted to know if it was an "original" and my multi layered response was that it was a hand built recreation of the iconic 1965-1966 car that ran at Lemans and beat Ferrari, and if it were an original, then I would have an armored guard present. All of which opens them up to more questions about the car, paint color, engine, tires, fiberglass/steel, speed, interior, and the history of the Ford/Ferrari wars.

A local Tucson blacksmith drove an old pickup truck with a big anvil on the top of the cab. It was made of sheet metal but it fooled most people. When they asked him "Is it real" he always replied "Of course it's real- if it wasn't real, you couldn't see it!".

I've found the most common questions people have about my car are:

1. "What kind of car is that?"
2. "How fast will it go?"
3. From the young uncouth: "How much did it cost?"
