Chris--are you my "Hero"?
You may just be my hero!! How many times have I thought about not fixing the TV when it goes out, yet here I go again taking the TV from the bedroom to the repair shop soon as I can get help to get it down off the wall mount. When I had kids living in the house, I went so far as to make the rule that there would be at least one TV free night. The 3 kids each got to pick a day that was safe from the "no TV" rule, as did my wife and I, and the day that was left over was the "Black-Out Day", so to speak. The kids hated it but the wife and I loved it b/c it got the kids up and out of the house for at least one evening a week. I'll bet the little buggers went to their friends' houses and watched TV. Sometimes I think it's a blessing when we don't know what our kids are up to.
