Hi Elizabeth and Armando

I received the sump pan, which looks really good.

However, there is a problem – it doesn’t fit on the block.

The rear main cap is in the way! The pan goes in just in line with the main studs.

How do you suggest this is fixed?

Thanks
Lee

Re: Armando oil pan doesn\'t fit

As you can see I have just received an Armando sump pan, which appears well made, but it doesn't fit around the rear main cap. I have not yet had any response to my emails. I am guessing that hammering it out with a small hammer will eventually give enough clearance, but wondered if there was anyone who has already gone through this process, and can give me any guidance. I don't really want to start hitting it and voiding any warranty which may exist, but if Armando doesn't respond, what to do?
Thanks

Re: Armando oil pan doesn\'t fit

Are you sure it's your main cap and not the girdle?

I'm not familiar with this particular pan, but it looks like a modified stock pan, and some stock pans do interfere with stud girdles.

If there is no way to get a replacement that fits, the hammer seems like it might work, unless you have to move it a lot, then it would probably be better to cut and weld.

If you are not up to that project, I suggest that you find a good metal Fabricator. They will know if hammering is feasible.

Just make sure you don't create any leaks.

Same trouble on 289 pan with wider main rear cap, removed some material by grinding and hammering the pan

Re: Armando oil pan doesn\'t fit

I'm fairly certain it's not the girdle, but it is definitely interfering with the rear main cap. Sounds like I amybe have the wider rear main cap like Bernie. It's a SVO G351, which I told Armando specifically. He had photos as well, including the girdle which he confirmed would be OK. Still no answer from him. Maybe they're on holiday. I'll try one more time, and then I'll have to start the gentle hammering.

Re: Armando oil pan doesn\'t fit

I purchased a custom made pan from Armando. Fit like a glove - made to my specs. He was a little difficult to contact but came through in the end.
Just my two cents.

Re: Armando oil pan doesn\'t fit

Well Armando did reply and gave me some advice on what might work. He figured it was catching on the girdle, but it wasn't. So I had a go with the grinder tonight and by grinding a little of the main cap away, along with reshaping the pan with a small pin hammer it now fits. It was definitely catching on the main cap just in from the semicircular part for the seal. At this point of the pan I couldn't shape it away from the cap because of the 90 degree bend in the metal so had to grind from the cap instead to make the room. Then had to file a couple of the holes in the mounting face so now it fits fine.
