Block ID please?

'Googled' it and came up with lots - including:

The following information is from the Ford Y-Block Site (Ford part numbers) and others including: (68.48.48.131/~djhamma/partnumb.htm#Ford), (wantabe.com), and (www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Downs/5505/castings.htm). Some of the information in the various web pages conflicts but I think the following is the correct interpretation.

Engineering (on the part) part number C80E-6015-A

C - Decade code - C = 1960 decade was the first decade for this part
8 - Year code - 8 = 1968 was the first year for this part
O - Application code - O = Intermediate sedan - Fairlane, Torino
E - Part category code - E = Engine part
6015 - Part identifier - 6015 = Engine block
A - Sequential design revision - A = First release

Date Code 7F5W

7 - Year code - 7 = 1977 or 1987 or 1997
F - Month code - F = June
5W - Should be a two-digit number to indicate the day of month. E.g., 05 - fifth day of month, 22 - 22nd day of month, etc. Have also seen references that indicate the single digit 5 is the fifth day and the W is the shift. One reference indicates the W might be for Windsor, as in 351 Windsor.

Might help but I have not checked accuracy...

Simon,
What is the date code? Not sure if I understand.....is the date code in Paul's post yours or his example?

The block is certainly a small block, 289/302, but not sure which since both were available in 68'.

C80E-6015-A
Any idea what this is? 302? 351? any advice appreciated
Simon

It has the displacement stamped in the lifter valley. Unless its a late model 5.0. And this isn't.

Having re-read a couple of books, from about 67 the blocks were identical. The 289 had a 302 block but 289 internals.

"The 320 blocks appeared for the first time late in the 1967 model year as 289 engines with casting numbers beginning C8AE and C8OE, sporting a 302 in the valley area. It is not uncommon to find a 302 block that was cast and assembled during the summer of 1967 as a 289ci engine."

That was taken from "High Performance Ford Engine Parts Interchange"

Simon,
In my reference book it says its a 302 block that also has extended cylinder skirts.
By how much? It doesn't say.

302w blocks have the bottom of the cyl bores extended by about 0.200" more than 289. Better for piston stability @ BDC, however in this modern world of availibility simply use any of the longer rod/shorter piston combos & get the best of both worlds.:)

OOP'S, I just measured a couple of blocks in the shop/shed, looks like its closer to 0.100" than the 0.200" dim I posted above, Sorry!
