C5/C6 Corvette Transaxle

Ken,

I had a question about the C5/C6 corvette transaxle. Ok, I want to do the corvette mid-engine setup like Ken (BB69) did in his track car. I know you have to find an LT1 or non-corvette LS bellhousing, crank spacer, spacers/washer between the torque convertor and flexplate and enlarge the holes in the flexplate.

Instead of that, do you know if a 4L60E out of something other than a corvette will bolt to the corvette differential? Would this be an easier route? We know that the 4L60E will bolt directly to the engine (as it is done in every vehicle besides the C5/C6 corvette. If the corvette diff could mount directly to the back of the 4L60E tranny, I would be in luck.

Thanks for any help.

Kev,

The rear differential from the C5/C6 will bolt on a standard TH350, TH400, 700-R4, 4L60, 4L80, or 6L80 automatic transmission.

Remove the tailshaft extension from a RWD automatic transmission and bolt on the differential assembly. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe only the manual transmissions need the intermediary housing to bolt the differential assembly on...the automatic transmissions tailshaft mount should be the exact same pattern as the differential assembly mount.

I would strongly encourage you to use a C6 differential housing, it's stronger and has a better mounting design. In fact the C6 Z06/ZR-1 housing is even stronger than the base-model design AND has a larger/stouter ring & pinion.
