Can\'t delete this scam
There is a new scam going around that you don't have any control over until you have been victimized. All I can say is that if you are not monitoring your creditcard statement very closely, each and every month, you shoud.
It works this way:
Once a thief has your credit information, he/she purchases some big ticket item and has it shipped to YOUR address, and gives the shipper(lets choose Fedex for example) permission to leave the package on your doorstep. The seller of course records all the pertinant info on the sale, as does the shipper. The theif tracks the shipment, and finds out when it will be delivered to your house(usually in the middle of the week down to the aproximate time of delivery) The theif then calls shipper number two(lets use UPS) to pick up the package at your address(sitting onyour doorstep about an hour after delivery), and have it delivered to a second address(usually not their address, but a pickup spot).
When you notice the new purchase on your bill, you will protest it and the vendor will tell you that you not only bought it but gave the shipping instructions to your house, and the shipper will confirm that it was indeed sent to your address, leaving your credit card company thinking you are trying to scam them.
This trick was discovered by an individual who checked his statement and called the vendor about it. The vendor assured him that he(the purchaser) had bought it and had given the above instructions on shipping. The shipper confirmed the shipment and told the person that it had indeed been shipped and should arrive that afternoon. When the cardholder returned home that afternoon, he found a card on his door saying the first shipper had attempted to deliver the package but no one was at home and would attempt to deliver it later. There also was a second note on the door from shipper #2 saying that they had tried to pickup a package at the address, but none was on the front doorstep as directed.
A word to the wise..... Be careful out there.
