Car Value (for insurance)

I have a KVA based car made in South Africa by a company called KIT (not sure if they still exist though?). The car has a 5.8 351 Cleveland engine with a Audi/Posche 5 speed transaxle (just been reconditioned), 750 Edelbrock carb and Edelbrock intake manifold, solid lifters and uprated camshaft, correct wheels and goodridge tyres. But, I am confused as to how much it is worth; I think it is worth about £25,000 but I am not sure - amy ideas???

Hi jkyle69,

Back in mid-1980s to early 1990s Kit Car Centre, near Johannesburg, supplied KVA type kits, ie with chassis jigged to accept the Ford Cortina complete so-called front K-Frame which included hubs, rotors, calipers pressed wishbone suspension and steering rack. Rear suspension was modified Ford Granada. With the benefit of hindsight and with having subsequently been involved with 'proper' GT40s this was not the ideal suspension package but cheap, practical and readily available. I would presume your car is the same.

In 1990 we were commissioned to build a turnkey car for a British customer. It was the most difficult build I've ever been involved with but in the end the cars was great and it now belongs to a Volkswhen dealer in Switzerland. Must have done something right knowing how fussy the Swiss are!

You ask about value. I would like to have valued this car at about $1 million, half of which to pay my Prozac account. Only partly joking!

On a serious note 25,000 pounds would be a fair value. Top quality used GT40s and Ultimas can fethch from 35,000 to 45,000 pounds in the UK.

Best wishes,
Andre40
